Our recent stay at Me Malta left us with very mixed feelings. On the surface, the hotel is well-designed, we stayed in room 1409, which was stylish and practical. The atmosphere throughout the hotel was vibrant, the staff generally friendly, the pool area was lovely, and drinks were excellent. The food was acceptable, though not memorable. However, several serious issues made the stay disappointing and, at times, deeply frustrating. Firstly, the noise levels in room 1409 were excessive. While we expected some external noise due to the location, the greater issue was internal. The room doors have noticeable gaps at the bottom, allowing noise from the corridor and lifts to travel into the room throughout the night, significantly disrupting sleep. A concerning aspect of our stay was the spa experience. We booked deep tissue massages, but what we received was unprofessional and painful. Despite the therapists being polite, there was a clear language barrier, and they did not understand basic requests. My treatment involved painful pulling of fingers and toes to the point that I had to stop the massage three times due to pain. Despite raising these concerns at the spa reception and then with Spa management, the matter was largely dismissed. We were still charged €200 for what was a distressing and unacceptable experience. We were offered another treatment at the spa but we declined. We were told by the hotel management that the spa operates independently of the hotel but this does not excuse the lack of accountability. I strongly advise avoiding the spa altogether. More seriously, we had contacted the hotel ahead of time to inform them in writing about a life-threatening food allergy. We were reassured that appropriate precautions would be taken. However, on the final day of our five-day stay, I returned to find the allergen in my room. This is not a small oversight, it is a severe breach of duty of care and could have resulted in a medical emergency. An apology was given, but the gravity of the error cannot be overstated. In conclusion, while Me Malta has many appealing features, it is let down by serious communication failures, and a disturbing lack of responsibility when it comes to guest wellbeing. Unfortunately, we will not be returning, and we cannot recommend it to others with specific health needs or expectations of a professional spa experience.
