Avis : The Astor Hotel Tianjin

Un moment hors du temps dans cet hôtel luxueux qui a su préserver son patrimoine. Je vous recommande les suites dans la partie ancienne de l’hôtel. Un must !

Hôtel très agréable. La chambre est grande. Et le personnel très bien. Seul bémol les chambres non fumeuses qui sentent néanmoins la cigarette.

In the past, especially during the 1920s-1940s The Astor Hotel Tientsin or so called Tianjin today had almost dominated the high-niche market in the city with some delighted reputations. However, the actual experience today is definitely doesn't deserve its long lasting reputation. I don't want to explain too much, the picture showed everything. The problens are not only due to the very poor maintenance of its old building，but also relates to the horrible and inresponsible working attitude of its staffs. I had been lived and worked in many cities such as Shanghai, Toronto, London, Chicage....Well, Some well known brands such as Marriott, Langham, Hilton may share some similar issues but not all of these problems incurred at the same time in a single room! By the way, the Indian door man with strong Indian accent is dedefinitely not an asset...doesn't mean anything and can't improve your brand image unless you do make real changes to correct every problems.

Would recommend this inexpensive and perfectly located hotel. The hotel has an interesting history and entrance to the museum is free for hotel guests. Lovely little bar in the hotel for drinks or tea.

Travel back in time Booking the Victoria room in the museum wing was the best decision and the best offer money wise (compared with the same retro hotels in Hongkong, for example, where room rate may start from 3000 yuan) The atmosphere was truly vintage, the decor and furniture, accessories and overall aesthetic was astonishing. The room was equipped with anything one may imagine, including a capsule coffee machine. High ceilings, cozy rooms, balcony and authentic wooden door and original parquet. The bed itself was out of a fairy tale, with the four stands and canopy. The service was outstanding The package contained even a brief photo session, while the make up was performed by the artist in the full version The location is excellent except it was not easy to find any restaurants close-by. Breakfast was great, including milky oatmeal and perfect coffee. Historical museum in the basement floor is providing essential and interesting information about the Hotel’s history, must visit. The most fabulous part of the hotel complex is the historic wing, with the former lobby, O’hara bar , the oldest elevator in China installed by OTIS, and suits upstairs.

Hotel location is fantastic never the river, old building with its rich history. Photo sessions offered is great. The place needs renovation though.

The room was too old and the door didn’t open easily. We needed to use the card several times trying to open it oh my God.

The oldest hotel in Tianjin. The rooms are slightly outdated, but it’s an enormously charming place. I would advise staying in the museum wing.

Overall nice, historical hotel with, great location to explore Tianjin. However during our stay there were some drawbacks: - The rooms to the rear of the old part of the building are really noisy, even though the windows and doors have been replaced with modern ones. It's not understandable to me why a five star hotel replaces windows and balcony doors with insufficient ones if they decide to do so. - We wanted to use the pool/wellness area, which was closed due to "technical issues". No further explanation, compensation etc. was given and this has not been communicated during the booking or elsewhere. - We showed up at 10:30 sharp for breakfast (which was until 10:30 at least) and were sent away since "there's nothing left". Also, no compensation was offered except for some cheap fridge magnet from the hotel's museum. Overall, value for money is questionable (1600 RMB for one night). Next time I will choose a hotel of an established international chain, such as Shangri-La.

Love this hotel it is the most interesting and grand step back in time in Tianjin .. museum and O’Hara bar are fantastic.. always my first choice to stay here

It’s a modernized historic building integrated with burnished aged-fashion-design admixture here and there. The lobby floor extends its wing to a spacious restaurant with semi-transparent chalky glass ceiling through which natural light casted from the above and a cozy Japanese eatery. A few steps out of its facade is a thoroughfare alongside beautiful river; wherefrom you see high Shangri-La signage across the river. Service is fine, nothing to complain about, neither things so impressive.

An exceptional stay, one of the best in China in recent memory. Very impressed with the politeness of staff, such as greetings from waiters during breakfast. Hotel is a cutural gem and had no idea it has such a rich history. Quirky and fun, highly recommended. Breakfast was excellent.
