This hotel is great if u like onsen. We like to use the onsen every night after an exhausting day walking. Then enjoy a free ramen or ice cream. There’s free small simple ramen each night on the 2nd floor, free coffee, at the lobby, yakult & ice cream (15th fl) ( during specific time slot’s) We never used our room shower cos it’s tiny. We go to the public bathroom where u wash up sitting on a stool, then enjoy the Onsen & Sauna. Free drinks available at a drink machine in the sauna, also toiletries like shampoo & such. At the ladies washroom u can choose from a selection of shampoo & conditioner. But u can’t use the onsen if u have a tattoo. On the 15th floor, washing machine available for free, u gotta pay to use the dryer, but is quite cheap, we used about 300 yen to dry a full load of clothing. There’s also free manga, & a smoking area.
U get pick up extra towels at the reception, also stuffs like toothbrush, razor etc.
Hotel is within walking distance to many kombini’s, supermarkets ( I recommend Seiyu) & Sunshine City. Room is quite small though, but we had no trouble with 2 large suitcases. I like it that u can open the window to get fresh air, & it’s not far from the Ikebukuro station where all the shopping, food & actions are! I love going to the food street at Loft & Parco. Tobu is also amazing with lot’s of food & the biggest Daiso in Tokyo. We used the airport limousine bus to travel to & from Narita. Bus stop is at Sunshine City Prince hotel, ( 5 mins walk all flat terrain).
I would suggest the hotel make extra space by hanging up certain things, like the hair dryer, television. The walls are very empty, there can be more hooks, planks available for guests to place their stuffs or hand up a bag or jacket.
I also have a slight complain about the water kettle in our room. It won’t stop automatically when at boiling point, we asked the reception to change it, she said the cleaning lady will. But we found out the next day the kettle is still the same! We gave up cos sometimes communication in English isn’t totally ok with some staffs & just manually switch the kettle off every time it boils.
But all in all just some minor bugs, we did enjoyed our week-long stay here & will certainly consider coming back!

Dormy Inn Ueno Tokyo – A Small but Well-Equipped Stay
During my recent stay at Dormy Inn Ueno Tokyo, I found it to be a compact yet highly convenient hotel, especially for travelers who prioritize location and practical amenities over excessive space. It’s not a luxury hotel, but it does a great job of providing a comfortable stay with thoughtful touches.
Location – Perfect for Travelers
One of the best things about this hotel is its location. Just a short walk from Ueno Station, it offers easy access to the JR Yamanote Line, the Keisei Skyliner (for Narita Airport), and multiple metro lines, making it an excellent choice for those who plan to explore different parts of Tokyo. Additionally, the Ameya-Yokocho (Ameyoko) Market is just around the corner, where you’ll find everything from fresh seafood and street food to clothing and souvenirs. It’s a lively area that adds to the appeal of staying in Ueno.
Room & Facilities – Compact but Functional
As expected, the rooms are small, which is pretty standard in Tokyo, but they are well-designed with everything you need. The bed was comfortable, and the room included basic amenities like a TV, a small desk, and a fridge. Storage space is limited, but for a short stay, it was manageable. The bathroom was also compact, though the onsen (public bath) on-site makes up for it.
Onsen – A Small but Relaxing Bath
One of the highlights of staying at Dormy Inn hotels is their public bath (onsen), and this location has one, albeit on the smaller side. It’s not the biggest or most luxurious onsen, but it’s a nice way to unwind after a long day of walking around Tokyo. The water temperature was just right, and while the space was limited, it wasn’t overly crowded when I visited.
Freebies & Unique Perks
Dormy Inn is known for offering small but unique perks to its guests. This location provides free popsicles and yogurt drinks, which is a nice touch. However, they are only available during specific hours, so if you’re out sightseeing all day, you might miss out on them. They also supposedly offer free late-night soba, a Dormy Inn signature, but I never actually saw it happen and didn’t feel like asking about it. Maybe I just missed the time window. Housekeeping – No Room Cleaning, Just Fresh Towels
One thing to note is that Dormy Inn follows a no-daily-cleaning policy. Instead of a full room service, they simply drop off fresh towels outside your door. This is fine if you’re staying just a few days, but if you prefer daily room cleaning, you might find it lacking.
Staff & Service
The staff at check-in were friendly and efficient, which I appreciated. They handled everything quickly and provided all the necessary information without any issues. While I didn’t interact with them much after check-in, the overall service felt professional and welcoming.
Final Thoughts – A Solid Stay for Practical Travelers
Overall, Dormy Inn Ueno Tokyo is a great choice if you’re looking for a convenient, budget-friendly, and functional stay in Tokyo. The location is excellent, the onsen is a nice touch, and the small perks like free drinks and late-night snacks add to the experience. Just keep in mind that the rooms are small, there’s no daily cleaning, and some of the free amenities have limited availability. If you’re okay with that, it’s a great place to stay in Ueno!

The decision to book at the Dormy Inn Ginza Hot Springs was swayed by a positive comment that I read from a previous review that remarked on the quality of Dormy Inn staff. Our experience could not have been more opposite. We stayed for four nights over the 2024/2025 new year, and I was appalled at the complete absence of customer service. We had unexpectedly been joined by our adult daughter and asked if she could stay in our room or if we could book a room that could accommodate three. When we indicated that we would like to check the room, front desk staff physically blocked our entry to the elevator, in which were other guests; it was intimidating. I have never experienced such rudeness and inhospitality and we were made to feel untrustworthy. When we were finally permitted to inspect the room, we had to be accompanied by two staff; incredible. I regret that we had prepaid for the four night, because I would have preferred to go to any other hotel in Tokyo than stay at that Dormy Inn. Our daughter did find another hotel rather than book a separate room there.
There had been no advice from the front desk about the hotel facilities. We were surprised to learn from a fellow guest about the availability of the lounge on the second floor and the evening ramen. In the lounge another guest told us of the hot springs in the basement. This was information that should have been brought to our attention at check-in.
There are many hotels in Tokyo, look elsewhere if you value hospitable, friendly, courteous front desk staff. You will not find any of these qualities at the Dormy Inn Premium Ginza Natural Hot Springs Hotel. It is inhospitable, unfriendly, discourteous and most definitely unwelcoming.

I recently stayed at the Dormy Inn Express in Asakusa and had a wonderful experience. From the moment I arrived, I was impressed by the warm and welcoming atmosphere of the hotel.
The location of Dormy Inn Express is fantastic, situated in the heart of Asakusa with easy access to popular attractions like Senso-ji Temple and the Asakusa Skytree. The hotel is also conveniently located near public transportation, making it easy to explore the rest of Tokyo.
The staff at Dormy Inn Express were extremely friendly and attentive, always ready to help with any inquiries or requests. Check-in was smooth and efficient, and I felt well taken care of throughout my stay.
The room itself was cozy and well-appointed, with all the amenities I needed for a comfortable stay. The bed was comfortable, the bathroom was clean, and the complimentary Wi-Fi was fast and reliable.
One of the highlights of my stay was the hotel's onsen (hot spring) facility. After a long day of exploring the city, it was so relaxing to soak in the hot spring and unwind. The views from the onsen were also stunning, offering a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle of Tokyo.
Overall, I highly recommend Dormy Inn Express in Asakusa for anyone looking for a comfortable and convenient stay in Tokyo. The combination of great location, friendly staff, and excellent facilities make it a top choice for travelers visiting the area.
