Review: Grand Sapphire Hotel, Cyprus During my recent holiday in Cyprus, I had the opportunity to stay at the Grand Sapphire Hotel. Overall, it's a hotel with several strong points, but unfortunately also some significant shortcomings that affected the overall impression of the stay. The Negatives: Issues That Marred the Experience Right on the first day, we were surprised by the absence of hot water, which was very unpleasant after a long journey. Another, and unfortunately crucial, problem was the unbearable presence of cigarette smoke in the room, coming from the air conditioning. My girlfriend felt unwell because of it, which is completely unacceptable for non-smokers and significantly impacted our comfort and health during the stay. Regarding the staff, the level of English was catastrophic, with very few exceptions. Communication was often difficult and frustrating, which shouldn't be the case in an international hotel. Furthermore, we would have appreciated the presence of an ATM directly in the hotel and a souvenir shop within or very close to the hotel, as their absence was inconvenient. A significant concern, even during a period when the hotel wasn't at full capacity, was the dining room struggling to cope with the number of guests. It felt like it was already at its limit, raising questions about how it would handle a fully booked hotel. This could lead to long waits and a less pleasant dining experience if not addressed. The Positives: The Bright Sides of the Stay On the other hand, the cuisine at the Grand Sapphire Hotel deserves praise. The food was excellent, with sufficient variety and wonderfully seasoned. The desserts, in particular, were phenomenal, and we looked forward to them every day. The hotel environment itself is very nice and clean, which contributed to a pleasant atmosphere. The service by the pool in the PERA area was also generally good, although the quality of service naturally depended on the current occupancy. Conclusion The Grand Sapphire Hotel has the potential to be a great holiday destination, but it needs to address key shortcomings. While the culinary experience and hotel cleanliness are of a high standard, problems with hot water, smoke in the room, inadequate English proficiency among the staff, and the apparent lack of dining room capacity relative to the hotel's potential occupancy significantly detract from the overall impression. For a future visit, I would consider whether these issues persist.
