Casa Dei Pittori Venice Apartments

Fantastic spacious ground floor apartment where we could watch the gondolas and boats go past. We were met by Francesco who was incredibly helpful and informative. The area is quiet but only 15 minutes to Rialto Bridge. There is a lovely square 2 minutes away with trees, benches and restaurants. On one evening local residents gathered and played music and danced whilst we had dinner outside, it was really charming. The apartment was in a perfect location, would highly recommend. We had a fantastic break and would stay here again if we return.

Casa dei Pittori is a beautiful old palazzo in the heart of the Santa Croce area of Venice. I felt like a true Venetian staying here. We stayed in the Dimora Canaletto apartment which has 2 bedrooms (one with a queen bed and one with 2 twin beds), a living room/ dining room space, a kitchen and (the highlight) a balcony overlooking the canal. Gondolas travel up and down the canal regularly. I could have stayed on the balcony the whole trip just watching the gondolas pass and waiving to the passengers. The apartments have ceilings that were at least 14 feet high and they are decorated with some original oil portraits and other paintings. The bottom floor of the palazzo has patterned marble floors and iron grates that open on to canals. The train and bus station are close - about 10 minute walk - and the Rialto Bridge - about 15 minutes. San Marco is a little further - about 20-25 minutes (or longer if your kids love poking their heads into the thousands of mask stores along the way). A couple of small supermarkets are very close and convenient and there are restaurants and bakeries nearby. The only negative I have is that the wi fi was very spotty. The people running the place were very nice and apologetic about it and told us they were working on it but it remained hit or miss during our stay. Other than that, the place was absolutely perfect and exceeded my expectations.
