Just returned from a visit to Venice where we stayed at the Casa dei Pittori (Dimora Giorgione). Our host, Francesco, met us at the bus station and we walked together through winding alleyways to the apartment (10-15 mins). The apartment was absolutely wonderful. We felt like we had stepped onto the set of a Donna Leon novel. It is located in an elegant palazzo, whose windows face directly on to the intersection of two small canals. Gondolas and other small boats pass by frequently and just gazing at their comings and goings can become addictive. The apartment has 2 bedrooms, a well-equipped kitchen (which we hardly used as we mostly ate out) and an attractive, modern bathroom with excellent shower. The location is perfect. Quiet at night and beside the lovely Campo San Giacomo, near lots of nice restaurants and cafés and two local supermarkets. Yet, just 25 mins walk from Piazza San Marco, 10 minutes from the Rialto and 5 minutes from the San Stae Vaporetto stop. Our host, Francesco, couldn't have been kinder or more helpful - excellent recommendations! We were able to leave our bags in the apartment on the last day and collect them before our departure for the airport. All in all, we absolutely loved this apartment and highly recommend it as the perfect base from which to explore this beautiful city.
