Willington Hall Hotel

Don't. Stayed last week, paid for dinner, bed and breakfast. Checked out settled our bill, and left. Checked my bank statement , charged £102 for something by this place after the fact. Phoned to query it and was told, "What was it for" followed by "What do you want me to do about it". Was in the shower and got a nock on the door to be told stop using it the ceiling is leaking. Makes Fawlty towers look like the Ritz, if stating in Chester go to the Grosvenor Pulford instead.

I fell in love with Willington on the drive. What an absolute hidden gem of a hotel. The staff are an absolute delight, the views are simply stunning, the food delicious and the rooms luxurious. The sound of birdsong is incredible! Hares were hopping around in the early morning and there are hidden benches where you can sit and read...gorgeous. Sadly only a two night-stay but it's a very affordable escape from the city so I will definitely be back..I think my blood pressure dropped several points within seconds of arrival! Personal service, and so many sweet touches throughout the hotel show the care the owners (who I was lucky enough to meet: a charming elderly couple who obviously have an absolute passion for what they do) take in everything. Lots of locals in...always a good sign! I would like more than two coffee sachets in the room but as soon as I mentioned this I was handed extra...seemed like nothing was too much trouble. Photos of the gorgeous garden...full of flowers!

The hotel is extremely dirty and poorly managed.The hotel seriously needs to evaluate options for improving general cleanliness and maybe think of renovating or fixing issues. Had one of the worst experience in my life.Staff are terrible....front desk guys were worst and indifferent..i went with family and they have no consideration...rooms are worst quality. Room was filthy with dirt and dust looked like it had been forgotten about by the cleaner. The whole place looks like a hounded house with leaks from everywhere ! I wanted to write more but i think it is waste of time.

Regular visitor normally reasonable meal but last visit terrible food Visit on Sunday night firstly given last weeks menu and told what was ordered would take another 25 minutes and that was after starters finished On Ed starter was supposed to pea soup but was in fact leek and potato rather rediculous Main course was obviously warmed up from lunch with overcooked meat and vegetables not good enough Room ok not the cleanest and toiletries minimal When asked the owner for decaffeinated tea was quickly rebuked The tea on offer was earl grey which is rather like marmite The lady was quite rude and said that it was all minimal which is terrible for a smart country house hotel No extra in the suite such as gowns The shower needs adjustment and heating permanently on?!!

We booked for two nights so we could meet up with friends who live in an other part of the Country. The hotel is in a lovely historic building in a peaceful setting. The restaurant and bar staff were friendly and the young lady who served the breakfast particularly efficient. We ate dinner in the restaurant on both nights which was an enjoyable experience. The continental breakfast was basic, no fruit and no yogurts on the second day, the cooked breakfast was of good with quality ingredients. Our room and bathroom was of a decent size, decor somewhat tired and in need of some TLC, we noticed cobwebs in the bathroom. he bed was uncomfortable and rather saggy. Our friends room was not serviced and bed made after the first day, unlike our room which was a bit strange.

Booked afternoon tea for my parents and their friend. The food itself was lovely with a nice selection, as can be seen from the photograph. However in keeping with every other afternoon tea I have ever been to and with the reduced appetites of my parents and their friend, I asked to take many of the cakes home. This has never been a problem in any other restaurant I have ever been in. But here I was told environmental health refused to allow it. This is absolute rubbish. Quite frankly I wonder what they do with all the cakes people don’t eat. It was incredibly frustrating they refused to give a box for the cakes to go in. There is nothing on the environmental health website regarding this and I genuinely felt it was just an internal policy . Given all the food is paid for the customer should be able to take it home if they ask. Top end restaurants through to simple cafes allow you to so why is this any different?

Where to begin 😃 we booked with Willington Hall for grandma’s 97th Birthday almost all of the family came, some stayed over in the lovely rooms. The party was held in the Orangery, the room and anteroom were beautifully presented. We were well received, the staff were simply wonderful and friendly, the inimitable Michelle looked after our party for the evening and was simply delightful. The chef was outstanding providing all of us with a spectacular meal. We eventually retired to the cosy bar and had the most wonderful celebration. Grandma had a blast. Thank you so much. 🥳.

We have just enjoyed a wonderful two night break at this stunning country hotel. The staff made us feel very welcome and were extremely attentive. Our room was very comfortable and spacious with a large en suite. We dined in the restaurant both nights and the food was to a high standard and delicious. Highly recommend as a fabulous base to explore this lovely part of Cheshire.

Having read the recent reviews on the morning of our journey to Willington Hall we arrived a little apprehensive but we need not have worried. This is an amazing hotel and we could not have chosen better. Recent reviews complain about locals using the hotel to me that is a good sign. The fact that there was some life in the hotel, which can sadly be lacking at this time of the year in country hotels, was a bonus. There were plenty of areas to have a quiet space if you wanted it and the staff were very attentive to our needs. The family who own this hotel are totally hands on and available to guests and their hospitality is second to none and made the stay even more delightful. The room was immaculate and welcoming with a very comfortable bed and a huge en suite. We had the pleasure of eating at the hotel and it is the best meal I have had in a long time beautifully cooked and generous portions. Sadly I was not able to sample the dessert menu despite wanting to as I was just too full. So anyone contemplating booking this hotel I would highly recommend that you do so and we shall certainly be returning as soon as we can. Thank you for a wonderful stay.
