Altafulla Mar Hotel

From the moment we arrived to when we left the staff could not do enough to help. We were here for our daughters wedding and they helped to make it all as stress free as possible. The staff here are amazing especially Candi. There were a few little hiccups but they were soon sorted by the hotel reception. The area is fantastic and all local restaurants excellent including the hotel own restaurants . I have nothing bad to say about this hotel . You won’t be disappointed.

Wonderful to see Altafulla Mar continue to maintain it's high standards! Once again everthing was just perfect - staff most pleasant, efficient and accomodating, all areas spotlessly clean and food excellent in all the restaurants (new Mexican restaurant a great addition!). The swimming pool area and the lovely garden is just the ideal spot to relax after an afternoon at the nearby beach, a sightseeing/shopping trip to Tarragona (train station just a few minutes walk from the hotel) or a pre-dinner aperitif. The de luxe rooms on the fourth floor with their big balconies (and sun loungers!) and free access to the infinity pool highly recommended.

Stayed four nights for a family wedding st the nearby Castell de Tamarit castle. This hotel is used by many parties that are here for weddings as we saw from coaches leaving for such an event and also from talking to fellow guests. But there are no irons or ironing boards in any rooms so with a large number of guests all wanting to be at their smartest you cannot find an iron or board. I complained and received a vertical steam iron but no ironing board. Apparently there is not one in the whole hotel and only six standard irons and six steam irons (not worth using). Breakfast is a buffet where the eggs are cold and have been sitting for some time. You can ask for a fresh egg but expect resistance to this. Reception staff are helpful but at times only one person is there and then seem to be on the phone for ages. I cut my head open and my cap saved the blood from going anywhere. So when I went to reception with my wife helping me to ask for a first aid box I found only one person on the phone and despite showing my hands with blood on them he continued his conversation on the phone! We went to the room and fixed my head there. Clearly not a four star hotel and the previous three star hotel we stayed in also for four nights was much better. Draw your own conclusion.

On our seventh visit to Altafulla Mar Hotel we still found it the perfect place for a lovely relaxing holiday. Standards still remain admirably high -- congratulations to manager Jordi! Great room, entire hotel spotlessly clean, beautiful pool and garden, great breakfast and very efficient staff. Front desk personnel deserve special mention, as does barman Eric -- all incredibly competent, friendly and obliging. Slight blip with one staff member dealt with sympathetically by the highly highly efficient front desk manager Paula. We'll be back!!

We booked a 2 night stay here for our wedding in April 2022, selecting the biggest suite with private jacuzzi for the night before and night of our wedding. What should have been a romantic and special occasion was a disastrous stay, with very little customer service from the staff at the hotel. While the hotel itself still feels new and we’ll kept. While we couldn’t use the pool facilities because of the weather, the communal areas looked excellent! Our room was on the whole good. Spacious, clean, lots of light. However the jacuzzi didn’t work. Despite the hotel itself being good, we were so disappointed that our wedding was ignored by the staff at the hotel. We had booked the best room in the hotel and mentioned in the booking that we were staying for our wedding. We were so sad not have any personal touches in our room when we arrived the day before our wedding and even more disappointed that there was no effort made by the hotel to make our wedding night special. When we got engaged in New York, our hotel covered our bed in petals, filled the room with balloons and left us a bottle of champagne to congratulate us. In this hotel - nothing. The night before the wedding, we had a 7 hour powercut - so a whole night of our stay without power and no staff from the hotel contacted our room to check on our well-being. We were sat in darkness the night before our wedding with no power and no light. It was a terrible experience the night before our wedding and made us very anxious and upset. The food in restaurant was also terrible. The pork was so bad it could not be eaten. The staff at the hotel did not say anything to us upon checkout and it was as if our wedding meant nothing. It was so disappointing that we weren’t appreciated at the hotel and our stay was not made to feel special on our wedding day. I have raised these concerns with the hotel and they have completely ignored my messages - so it’s unfortunate that the aftercare is just as poor as the on-site customer service we experienced.

We have just come back from a week at this hotel and I am finding it almost impossible to find anything wrong with this hotel. Check in was easy and very friendly staff that spoke English. Parking was free which I was amazed at. Rooms spotlessly clean good size rooms and bathroom with a fridge to keep drinks cold. Pool area very nice with plenty of sunbeds so no nonsense with towels and pool very clean. Bars and restraunts very good with a great breakfast. I cannot fault this hotel at all

I stayed here for 3 nights. The room I was in was on the 3rd floor, the room itself was in a good clean state and had an excellent view of the poolside area from the balcony. The bathroom was a good size with two sinks and two types of shower. However, there was duty coming off the convector fan that kept landing on the toilet seat, so you had the always check before using. Also, the toilet itself had a leak and kept draining water into the pan, I found the noise of the toilet keep refilling itself got rather irritating on my final night sleep in the early hours so I had to put on the air conditioning unit to drone out the noise. Other facilities in the room worked fine, and I did like the water bottle refills that were complimentary. As for dinner, if you are booking half board be careful. I found out when I got there that it isn't exactly straight forward. Half board entitles you to a 19 euro fund to use in their resturant. That's it. With the prices of main courses going up to 25 euros, its fair to say you are going to be paying extra for your food if you want at least two courses on most occasions, yet alone any drinks. Just check carefully what you order to avoid this but the menu isn't extensive. Breakfast is served as a buffet style, but odly, some items you can 'help yourself' to, and others you can't, and a member of staff puts them on a plate for you to take back to your table. It is rather confusing but eventually I got the hang of it. The area surrounding the hotel is very quiet, so if that's your kind of thing I'd come here. Although not many places to visit at night as most shops are closed after 2030/2100. Great for rail travel as it's approx 7 minute walk from the station. Overall this hotel has a lot of perks but just be mindful of some things when you arrive and do your research.

This hotel is located in lovely Altafulla, a very short distance from the beach, 5 min from the train station, that connects Altafulla with Tarragona and other towns, as long as there aren't any rail strikes. Also close by you can find some lovely boutiques, a small supermarket, bars and restaurants. The seasonal hotel, April to end of October, is very quiet in the month of October. It is clean, modern and well kept. If you book the premium room plus sizable terrace on the fourth floor, you will have access to the roof top pool, loungers and fresh water bottles. If you book a less expensive room on one of the other floors you will find a spacious enough room, small balcony and a good sized bathroom with toiletries. Outside there is a large seating area and a sizable pool, showers and outside toilets. There also is a life guard on duty, probably a good idea for the summer months, but pretty unnecessary for autumn. There also is a small gym for hotel guests to use. Reception staff was lovely and helpful. Lunch in the hotel is nice and so is the bar in the evening. You can sit outside or inside. Last orders are at 12.30 am, sharp ! Ester in the bar was great, lovely person. The let down of the hotel was the breakfast. Not so much the food, choice of eggs, fries, cold cuts, cheeses, cereal, fruit, teas and coffees, but the extremely inefficient set up. You can get your own beverage but have to be served everything else, although it is all buffet style. Generally it wasn't too busy at breakfast, except for the weekend which was very busy. So you end up waiting for your cold stuff, ham and cheese, and then you will have to go to a different station and wait for your bread. There usually was only one girl on and she had to run between the cold station, to the hots and the bread. This set up is very inefficient , time consuming and frustrating. Not a great way to start the day. I have been in many hotels during the pandemic and have never encountered a set up as silly as this. You can maintain standard and cleanliness without making the customer stand in line for their breakfast. If you are looking for a quiet hotel in autumn in the picturesque town of Altafulla, this hotel is for you.
