The Canal Inn

Stopped off for some lunch on our way to Bakewell. As soon as we walked through the door we felt welcome. Friendly staff, clean and tidy throughout. Ordered some drinks and food, then realised they brewed their own ales on the premises, Lock 14 Brewery, so sampled some lovely ales too. Our food was perfect, all the staff were friendly and helpful especially Ryan. The toilets were immaculately clean and tidy. Went to settle the bill and found out my wife had already paid! What a result! A perfect start to our Easter break. I would recommend a visit.

The most perfect mothers day meal. Food was fabulous and service and staff were incredible can't wait to visit again. First time visiting there were 8 of us and the food was hot, delivered in good time and was exceptional. Well done to all of you it was a perfect mother's day meal.

We were warmly welcomed by the staff and locals, who vacated their tables voluntarily to us. As a gesture we offered to buy the man a beer, but the bar staff had already beat us to it and put it on the house! Food was incredible, so thoroughly impressed! we've told everyone who will listen

The accommodation part of the inn was immaculate; rooms were clean and spacious and the en-suite was a good size too. Breakfast was fresh and the chef was happy to customise our breakfast order. The management was friendly and helpful. A range of local ales were on table in the bar. Will definitely return, as there is lots to see locally

Beautiful room and a great size, comfortable bed, air conditioning which was a godsend!!!, tea and coffee making facilities, lovely bathroom and shower but could benefit from a shelf for toiletries. The breakfast experience however was a different story. No signage indicating where to eat, no tables set for breakfast, limited menu, no cereal available, no pastries, no orange juice which I feel is a basic, pot of tea given after being there 10 mins despite only 1 other couple being in which was finished before breakfast arrived as we waited 40 mins. Bacon overdone, tomato not done enough, more sauce in the beans than beans, slice of toast came on the plate with no butter, no salt or sauces available. Lots of things need attention when charging £150 per night. Despite the room being spot on and having a decent nights sleep, very overpriced

We have been here many times over the past few months and have never been disappointed! The chefs, Henry and Rhys, serve the most amazing Pizza. Here, for a few drinks, order the small plates and pick away while still drinking. If you are thinking of visiting, then get your table booked.

3 night stay for my regimental reunion, bar food limited but fresh made with good local ingredients, rooms spacious and very clean staff excellent and friendly. Would highly recommend the full English breakfast .

Fantastic new rooms, high standard of finish exceptionally clean and comfortable with a view to the canal. Friendly staff and good food at a reasonable price. Optional breakfast in the pub was tasty. there’s plenty of parking and a pleasant garden for summer.

To be honest I only booked this last minute based on availability and low price. Based on previous experiences of pub stays I wasn’t expecting anything exceptional as they are often old creaking buildings, noisy bars and poor plumbing!!! The Canal Inn is a hidden gem. Recently refurbished (late 2022) the accommodation is in fabulous condition, deep soft plush carpets which match the big plush soft towels, waterfall shower, lovely toiletries, deep soft (but not too soft) mattress and peace and quiet. The bar downstairs full of lovely locals who were welcoming and the prices good. Breakfast freshly cooked with complimentary hot drinks. The whole place was spotless. If you need a base off the main tourist route to hit the Peak District from this place fits the bill.
