My partner gifted me for my birthday a package of two night spent at this hotel. The room assigned to us was very big and bright with a comfortable bed (and very crisp linen which I love) as well as for a spacious bathroom with a huge shower. We had dinner twice and overall it was great, the appetisers were tasty as well as for the pizzas, the only items which we found a little bit at fault was the burger, but it doesn’t change our mind. Breakfast was brought to the room in the evening with fresh pastries, yoghurt, granola, jam and OJ is a very nice touch, delicious. Regarding the location, as another person mention in the comment, the area is not great: a lot of shops have closed down or they are being refurbished and quite a lot of homeless/drunk people shouting in the street.

We stayed in the Ulverston suite and it was lovely. Clean and tasteful decor. Everything you need, hair drier, iron and ironing board, wine glasses. There is a couple of wooden games in the room noughts and crosses and dominoes which is a nice touch. Full size fridge. Shower is great and the spa bath was a welcomed treat. Bed was very comfortable, we would definitely stay here again. Unfortunately, we probably wouldn’t dine again. We booked a table as we were treating family and although the food could not be faulted, every meal we ordered was beautiful, the service was not the best. One waitress made you feel as though you were an effort and the more cheery one asked if we wanted anything more but walked off before I had chance to answer. I didn’t find them attentive at all, it was a real shame. As mentioned though the food was delicious. The only other comment I would add is (and puts me off eating here again) the chef goes out the back for a cigarette and his chef whites were disgusting….i have been a chef and yes you get food on them but these were grubby! Had I seen them before the meal I would have cancelled the table.

Amazing hotel! Was not expecting our room to be a full suite complete with living room and kitchenette area with fridge, toaster, kettle, sink and a 2 hob cooker top. Bed was comfy, linen was clean, pillows were plentiful and plump. Bathroom was nicely decorated and water pressure & temperature was fab! There were no dismal trickles, it was full on rain! The TVs (there was one in the sitting room AND one in the bedroom) were smart TVs and really easy to operate. Everything was immaculately presented, super clean, attention to detail was superb. Didn’t try the continental breakfast as we were rushing about too much but will most definitely stay here again and give it a go. Staff were really helpful, we originally only booked one night but plans changed so booked another and there were no issues when I rang to see if we could stay in the same room instead of having to pack and unpack elsewhere. We were a bit concerned it may be noisy being on the Main Street with a bar downstairs but we heard nothing. One of the best hotels I’ve stayed in and an amazing price to boot.

From arriving for one night upto leaving was absolutely amazing. My husband surprised me for my birthday . The room was huge and so perfect and had everything you need. I would definitely recommend this place to friends and family 💯. We had evening meal in the bar which was lush. I had a Toblerone cocktail I've never tasted anything so delicious. So obviously had to have another one 🙄 well worth the money. Will definitely be back to this place again but for longer. The boy did good 👍

Visited for a business trip and was pleasantly surprised. Great service and the room was immaculate. Modern decor with kitchenette that had a nice breakfast bar with a couple of stools. The staff were friendly and professional and gave me some good tips on the local area. Highly recommend and I’ll deffo stay there for my next visit to Barrow.

My partner and I were staying in the hotel as part of a Groupon deal. We ate in the restaurant on the first night as food was included in the deal. We arrived at the bar and were served by a young woman, I ordered a Shiraz and my partner asked about local ales, unfortunately she did not seem to know any of the ales and asked me to point out the Shiraz, the only one, on the drinks menu. Another waiter came over and he helped to serve us. My partner asked if we could have the tab added to our room, now an 'unfortunately we can't can't do that' would have sufficed, however we got a flat 'no'. Very rude attitude. We were then shown to a brightly lit booth and ordered food. I ordered the smoked haddock kedgeree and poached egg and my partner the bao buns with 3 fillings. Mine was terrible, salty and acidic, and the egg was in batter. Bao buns were ok. My partner ordered the fish and chips and I ordered meat balls and spaghetti. The same waitress as before on placing the food on the table ended up tipping half of my partner's on the table, she hadn't a clue on how to manage the situation, seemed very poorly trained, see photo, this was after I put the chips back on the plate. I had to send mine back, totally inedible, my partner eats pretty much anything and even he could not eat this, again the same flavour as my starter. The waiter who was abrupt previously came back to the table and rather just agreeing with me insisted the chef doesn't season anything, bit odd. I ordered fish and chips instead. How on earth can you get mushy peas and tartare sauce wrong, same for my partner too. By this time the noise from other customers was terrible. I asked for a new knife and fork, he returned and just dumped this on the table, said nothing, very rude and unprofessional. Deserts were ok although I expected the cappuccino mouse to be just that, instead it was hard ice-cream with foam on the top. There was one waiter who was professional. Overall a terrible experience. Obviously the bar man prefers to serve rowdy locals.

A few of us went for a meal at 7pm, the food I was nice, the staff helpful but they do like to close up early. Asked for coffee at about 8:45 and advised the coffee machine had been switched off!! This is the second time we’ve gone and to be honest likely to be the last. It’s such a nice place but not welcoming and you feel rushed to leave.

Me and my partner came away for 4 nights for my birthday and babymoon. What a beautiful hotel. The decor is stunning in both the rooms and the restaurant, the staff were friendly and welcoming and the food was lovely. We enjoyed a pizza one evening and afternoon tea on the Sunday which was lovely. I am pregnant so my drink options were limited but one of the bar staff made me some beautiful mocktails and I could see there were a huge variety of alcoholic drinks too. The room was beautiful decorated with lots of homely decor. The TV had Netflix which was a nice touch after a long day of walking around. The only down side was the room was VERY warm with only a small window to open, which you couldn’t have open when asleep due to the seagulls, and a fan which didn’t do a lot. With being pregnant I didn’t enjoy the 4 nights sleep I had. I do feel the room could benefit from an air con unit. Although this is not the fault of the hotel, we parked in their free car park and our car was damaged badly by what looks like someone reversing into the front passenger side. The only reason I am mentioning this on the review is that the hotel does not take ANY car information from the customers and the car park can be used by local businesses and residents. There are minimal spaces in the car park and i do not feel the hotel should advertise their car park if it is a free for all. This meant that we could not find out who hit our car as the hotel had no record of who had been in the car park. I understand that the hotel has no liability for the damages, however it would have been helpful to of known who was in the car park that evening/morning but this could have been anyone apparently. Once we had informed the hotel of the incident they did give us a free round of drinks which was very nice of them. The surrounding area was a little run down, although when you were inside you would think you were in a hot bar in London. There wasn’t a lot to do in barrow but with a short drive you were at the lakes. We attended the local zoo which was a great day out and went to Windermere for the day too. An overall good stay with an unfortunate accident.

Did a two night stay here with a Travel Zoo deal. There are good points along with not so good points. The main negative has to be the location, which is on a pretty rundown/rough high street, which is ok if you are only going to use it as a base whilst exploring the other very picturesque bits of the Lake District. The bar/restaurant area downstairs was very, very nice as was the food . . .we had a voucher to use the first night as part of the deal, and we chose to eat there the second night as well. Staff were all really friendly and helpful, so no complaints on that score at all. Room was nice and spacious, very clean and decor was modern. Unfortunately there seemed to be an issue with the carpet area surrounding the bath in the bedroom, which had a very strong smell of damp, and also felt damp to the touch. They may have already been aware of the issue as there were two air fresheners in the room. So personally this spoilt the stay a bit, there is no dedicated reception area, but we did tell a member of the bar staff, who assured us he would inform the General Manager.
