McMenamins Old St. Francis School

Great hotel. Old catholic school converted into a hotel, pub, movie theater. Each room is named after teacher who taught their. Very centralized location. Adjacent to Downtown Bend. Really clean rooms. Ample parking. Well appointed guest rooms. Highly recommend

What a fun experience! So many different areas to eat, drink and hang out. My friend and I got a drink and walked the property looking at all the secret rooms and buildings. I loved the different vibes each building/area had. All the outdoor fireplaces were great and really helped us to keep warm while enjoying the outdoor patio areas. After wandering and drinking our libation we decided to go into the restaurant to eat. We decided to sit at the bar so we could sit down immediately and not have to wait. I ordered the Cajun tots which came highly recommended. I wasn’t so sure why so many people raved about them. Well now I can tell you! They were scrumptious! They were cooked perfectly crispy and the Cajun seasoning was sooooo good! The tater part of the tot wasn’t chunky but a perfect consistency. It was also served with a wonderful peppercorn ranch. YUM! If you go don’t miss out on them. My friend ordered the burger with tots and he said the burger was cooked perfectly, was juicy and had great flavor. The size was substantial and he even took half for his lunch for the next day. I am so excited to plan on future visits to more of their properties.

Brian who has worked here for about 20 years yelled at a family in the soaking pool with a special needs toddler. I was mortified as a guest witnessing it. She was about 2 years old with down-syndrome and was barely jumping from the edge into her Father's arms. I was mortified for them and they left the pool directly after. Our children (ages 14 and 15) were asked to leave the pool soon after even though the sign outside the door said they can be there without an adult. Later that evening, our teenagers as well as several adults attended a movie in the on-property theatre, and the kids lost the room key. Katlyn and Brian refused to let our kids back into the room and berated them about things that should have been adult discussions. They refused to talk to me when I approached them about what happened and what they said to my kids. They instead put their hands in my face and said "We are done. Children (teenagers) need to be with adults at all times while on property. Go back and enjoy your drink. " Between family and friends that were staying and dining there that night, over $1000 was spent to be treated horridly by staff-members. I have been to several McMenamin properties, and this was uncalled for to say the least. I hope that management does something to rectify as I see there are several reviews about this type of treatment calling out management, and Brian and Katelyn specifically. Uncool, Bend. I hope it's not okay with you to be a great establishment with terrible customer service. It will catch up to you.

Kalen the manager of this hotel is the rudest employee I have ever interacted with at any establishment I’ve been to, McMenamins or not. My husband and I are huge fans of McMenamins and were even married at one, but after interacting with Kalen we will never be back to OSF and will reconsider future stays at McMenamins since they have chosen to hire someone who thinks it is ok to treat customers horribly.

Very fun venue to explore - secret rooms, several bars live music and even a theatre - this place is a friendly adventure to be sure. We dropped in for dinner. The drinks were great. The food (fish and chips for one, sliders for the other) were not what we expected. We had enjoyed our Dinner at McMenamins in Eugene, but this food didn’t come close to that, weird.

The Good: Clean, comfy and unique room. Quiet AC. Walking distance to old town. The Bad: $$$ for what it is, but maybe it's the location. No TV, fridge, gym, or breakfast. Pool is open to the public for paid admission. Our room faced the courtyard, and being summer, was loud until midnight. On site restaurant is a bit pricey for dinner. The Ugly: Cigar smell in the hall and some in the room, due to the cigar shop in the courtyard and multiple people smoking just outside.

Cool spot in Bend, we were hoping to find a proper Irish or British pub, but this was close enough. Beautiful building and outdoor area. Glad that it is really dog friendly. It's nice how they have their own liquors and beer, but it would be nice to have some recognizable brands too. Irish stout was good, but not great. Their whiskey left something to be desired, seemed quite watered down. The fish and chips were okay, heavy greasy breading and overcooked fish. The fries were brown, soggy, and over salted. Sadly the best part was the cole slaw, thankfully was delicious. The staff was friendly and efficient. It's a place for the ambiance, not the food, I probably won't come back.

If you are passing through Bend Oregon you must stay here. We made this site a destination this trip. From the secret rooms to the unique rooms the stay is comfortable and fun. The food and service were excellent. The people kind and willing to help. The place is both quiet and restful but offers fun evenings in the outside patios. You must take in a movie at the theater and soak in the Roman themed soaking pool.

Old St Francis School is where we originally discovered McMenamins and it's always a treat to return. We wondered in with a group of 9 and sat outside where a very typically friendly McMenamins character took good care of us. The pints and pub fare are always great. The property has grown since we discovered it, with McMenamins wonderfully weird and quirky specialty rooms.
