Platypus Park Country Retreat

We were warmly greeted by the owner and given a lovely tour of the property. We loved the location close to town, stores and restraunts. Beautiful beaches close by with lovely walking trails. Would definitely stay again. Best way to book is through the owner/operator website.

Pipers was a wonderful 2 bedroom accommodation with a full kitchen and extremely comfortable lounge room and dining room. It was a corner outlook towards a dam which if you were lucky could have platypus in it. The owners were most kind and helpful and this all added up to a perfect stay just a couple of km out of Bridport itself but felt a country retreat.

Supposed to be peaceful - but thundering trucks passing by at high speed before dawn on Monday and Tuesday morning spoilt the effect. Owner had very shaky Wifi and was reluctant (grumpy) to reboot it so was unable to connect for the four days we stayed. Kitchen lacking in reasonable utensils. Had advised that one adult was gluten free but owner denied this until I produced paperwork to prove otherwise. So although it was breakfast supplied that only applied to one of our party. I had to go out and buy my own. Then two days into our stay GF muslie appears. Too little too late.

The room smelt badly of stale cigarette smoke, the flyscreens were broken and consequently mosquitoes entered the room and the hot water pressure was so low that having a shower was very difficult. To top it off the noise from heavy vehicles on the adjacent highway made it difficult to get any sleep at all. The worst accommodation I have ever visited.

We were booked into lavender cottage for two nights however on arrival were given the wattle cottage, very rundown and tired looking with a poorly designed kitchen. The windows were wide open allowing dust and small critters particularly ants, and a spider found it’s way into my clothes that were placed on the shelf which needed wiping down first. The breakfast, for which we paid extra, was only provided after asking for it, and then it was just a very scanty cornflakes, bread and juice, which had to last us the two days. Perhaps COVID-19 was used as an excuse not to provide shampoo and conditioner - and considering COVID-19, I would have thought single serve coffee and sugar sticks should be provided instead of the jars of coffee and sugar, already contaminated by the coffee. A selection of teas would have been nice, along with some small packs of biscuits which even basic motels provide. We were given instructions to disinfect surfaces prior to leaving as well as disposing of our rubbish with the excuse given as a safety measure with COVID-19. I cannot understand why the cleaner is not adequately instructed and provided with gloves and suitable cleaning equipment. It’s quite remarkable that guests are required to clean, particularly after paying such a premium price for a very ordinary product. Our following two nights accommodation was the same price but the comparison is chalk and cheese. The gardens were very nice.
