Went for a Sunday roast after hearing good things, but we're sadly disappointed. No nut roast or suitable vegetarian alternative to the roasts, just a veg curry or halloumi burger, neither of which were really suitable for our kids. We'd have gone elsewhere but we were really hungry. They didn't bring us the starter we ordered, and all the food was massively over-salty. My roast beef portion was small and tough for the price, and the roast spuds were soft, pale, and anaemic. The gravy was so salty it was almost inedible. I would have said something, but the maitre'd didn't come across as particularly amenable or approachable, the kids were hungry, everyone was tired, and I didn't want to make a fuss. IMHO a case if style over substance, very expensive for what we were served, and not very well cooked. Won't be going back.

4 0f us stayed 3 nights here. The main issue is location - the hotel is on a busy main road (50mph) so the traffic noise is invasive. The situation is helped with secondary double glazing but this means no open windows. Fortunately fans were provided. We had rooms 4 and 5 both king rooms. 5 is more pleasant being lighter and more spacious. Beds are very comfy. The fan in our shower room did not work and neither did the light above the mirror. The Sunday roast was delicious. A more varied selection of veg for the remaining meals would have been preferred. The battered fish was overcooked and dry. Breakfast was a bit first come first served. One morning they ran out of croissants and we had to wait for the milk jug to be refilled. The bar and restaurant shut at 10pm which suited us - the hotel was quiet (except for traffic).

Visited recently with work colleagues. We were staying here and hosting a two day meeting nearby. The staff called to check we were coming twice as we weren’t able to check in before the meeting time wise so arrived quite late. We arrived at 9.45pm And were told the bar closed at ten. We were able to order a drink after some discussion but then felt pressured to finish as they were closing up. The rooms and bar area were lovely and furnished to a very high standard. Breakfast was included but had to pay extra for English breakfast. This was reasonably Priced and good quality though. My only concern is no staff remained on site overnight. This maybe the norm for a lot of places but not something I have ever experienced. It felt a little unnerving although reassured by owners and given clear instructions. I was ok as with colleagues but wouldn’t have liked if I was travelling alone.

A fantastic third visit here. Our first two visits were lovely but this was our favourite. This time we were seated in the library area - a beautiful room and atmosphere. We went for Sunday lunch and both had the “Roast Platter”; absolutely delicious, especially the honey roast ham! For desert we had sorbet and Eton mess, both beautifully presented and tasted great. Really looking forward to a future visit.

We visited the Nag's Head for Christmas dinner this year.Everything about our experience was perfect. The staff were welcoming, polite and attentive without being intrusive. The ideal balance. The food was excellent and couldn't have been better in my opinion. Many restaurants pack as many people in as possible to maximise profits for festive menus. It was clear that the priority of the Nag's Head management was to ensure the best dining and social experience for their guests. On a rainy, windswept day the natural lighting and the warmth from the woodburner kept us comfortable throughout.Superb!

I’m a little bit gutted, second time we been since October and staff were very rude. Bill was put on our table while we still drinking then told no rush to be asked 5 minute later if we wanted to card machine.. we asked if they were closing and they said no as people still in there. Staff don’t come across welcoming or friendly such a shame as food is delightful. Gave it a second chance because of the amazing food but won’t be back again. What was meant to be a lovely Christmas catch up left me feeling unwelcome and rushed.

Owner is very rude and needs to learn how to speak to people, especially customers! After a terrible experience on Sunday, I will never be back! I have since found out that this is not an isolated incident and she is well known for it.

The owner and bar manager are rude, unhelpful and disrespectful. After an issue today resulting in restaurant furniture ruining my clothing - the owner suggested I remove the clothing and leave the restaurant naked (while snowing outside). His response when it was highlighted that I had nothing to wear was “that’s your problem to fix”.
