Protur Bonamar Hotel - Adults Only

Just returned from another 1 week stay at this hotel. The hotel seemed a lot busier than on previous visits given it was still early season. The staff are all very good and work hard to make sure you have a good holiday experience. Reception staff especially Marta, Victoria & Luis were all extremely helpful during our stay. The restaurant staff work extremely hard and there is a good selection of quality food but sometimes some empty dishes could take a long time to replenish. Great to see Natalie as always doing an excellent job managing the hotel entertainment . There are a few matters which could be improved hence awarding a 4 star TA rating and not a 5. The WiFi signal throughout the hotel was patchy which has never been a problem on previous visits. The room air con was not switched on which was not ideal on hot days. Finally our room fridge was not keeping cold and I had to report it to reception a couple of times before it was eventually changed for one which worked properly as the maintenance man considered it was working OK. Overall this is a good well managed hotel and Cala Bona/ Cala Millor are very nice resorts .

First the plus points. Great position in the resort.Hotel is kept spotlessly clean all through, and the staff are always very friendly and hard working.Entertainment is not bad overall, but the area it is held in does make it difficult to get the sound levels right. If you sit in the wrong place it can be deafening despite the many pillars that hide the acts. The pool area is excellent, plenty of beds and parasols. A lovely chill out area and soft beds under a canopy are popular. Waiter service good in the bar, very good in the dining room. Dirty plates are cleared away very promptly. And now the minus points. The rooms are minimalist to say the least. Very little storage. Even the towels are left on the bed when changed as there is nowhere to put them. Wardrobe space is without doors, not enough hangers, and definitely no space for a long dress without it crumpling at the bottom of the wardrobe space because it is not deep enough. No drawer space in bedside tables, and the drawer space under the unit with the stool is reduced to one despite there being three spaces available. No under sink shelf in the bathroom. We had an adapted room, wheelchair friendly. If we had needed this facility, we could not have reached the magnifying mirror or the power sockets in the bathroom, could not have reached the heated towel rail, and would have had difficulty getting out of the shower due to the lack of handles inside the shower. There obviously were handles as the holes are still there. The approach to the room, 327, which is at the end of a corridor, is always dark in the day and would benefit by lighting over the room door as there is at night. The real let down was the food and kitchen service in the dining room. Quality overall was poor. Breakfast great if you wanted cooked, but the fruit offer is poor when you get it. Regularly we had to wait for melon to be refilled, one morning it took about 30 minutes to do that despite my prompting on 3 occasions. Evening hot meal menus puzzling, could not put food elements together at times to make a meal. One night we missed the main course because of the offer and look of the food, overcooked and or poorly displayed . I would not serve guests to my home, some of the food on offer. The salad bar offer was far better, as were the desserts. One over riding issue appears to be the continuity of food availiable. Too many times empty hot trays were not refilled ,leaving guests waiting with cooling food for the replacements to arrive. On our last morning we understood that the dining room opened at 7am, but when we arrived, there was no food available. We asked Carmen, who sorted it very quickly and the food, including hot food magically arrived, " confusion in the kitchen" quote! Food is one of the cornerstones of an enjoyable holiday. For us it took the enjoyment away.

We returned to this hotel having visited last April. We don’t usually return to prior hotels but we wanted a week away to chill and recharge our batteries. Having had a lovely week there last year, we decided to book again, The hotel has been refurbished and it looks great for it. The rooms are really nice now, and the beds super comfy - a massive improvement on last year. Appreciate that Bonaire markets itself as a family hotel, but there were sooooo many kids there this year. Why they weren’t at school was beyond me! I’d say a good 85% of guests were with kids in tow and unfortunately it did feel like a crèche for it. And boy was it noisy! The most peaceful and relaxing times of the day were first thing around the pool, and again after 5ish when those with children got ready for an early dinner. Evening entertainment was hit and miss. We felt that the majority of the evening was aimed at the kids, and left very little for those of us without them. All in all this is a really good hotel. If you have children you can’t go wrong. But for us, we wouldn’t return again.

We had an amazing time , helped along by the friendly staff , especially Vicky on front desk it was really lovely to see her back , the hotel is the most chilled out place I’ve been immaculately clean and great food with plenty of choices, entertainment was varied helped along by our lovelyNatalie

Lovely hotel, only complaint small room not a lot of storage. Good food some of the best we've had in a Spanish hotel. Entertainment not great but plenty out and about. Everywhere clean and tidy and staff very friendly and helpful. Victoria on reception and Carmen in the restaurant couldn't do enough to make sure you enjoyed your stay. We will be back.

Enjoyed our relaxed weeks stay here after a cruise . Relatively small modern adults only hotel , mid point sea front location with bars , cafes, shops and restaurants all within easy reach. Room was ok with small slanted balcony overlooking a fairly quiet road and with a view of the sea , but even better in the sun later in the afternoon/ evening. Fairly over complicated lights though , and motion activated bathroom fan which also detected anyone nearby but outside of the bathroom. Small ‘Bip’ supermarket within 5 mins , forget the ones near the sea front , turn left out of main entrance and second right, far cheaper. The usual ‘let’s reserve a sun bed all day with a towel ‘ problem ( saw someone at 6.30 am doing this when we were leaving ) didn’t bother us as we went out most days and came back mid afternoon when we could always find a couple . There’s a nice chill out type area near to the pool with relax chairs under shade . The roof top terrace lacked shade so was too hot & sunny for me ! There are two dinner sittings , 18.30 - 19.45 and 20.15-21.30 . You needed to choose one and then get allocated a table for your stay . Not ideal but we tended to visit just after 19.00 . The food was good and better than expected , they had a cooking station for fish , steaks etc . You could eat at a waiter served la carte restaurant next to the pool area once during your stay , we weren’t that impressed with the meal , the rocket missed off the pizza and when obtained it tasted let’s say passed its sell by date …… There were definitely problems with the lifts ( one serving the restaurant which is lower ground floor , the other the one main lift ) as mentioned in other reviews . Both broke down , the main one a few times, when the other half used the staff lift . I only used the lift when transporting suitcases ! All the staff were very pleasant . So yes recommended but hope they can sort out the lifts !

Our second visit to this lovely hotel. We stayed in the sea view hot tub room and it was perfect only with one exception- boiling hot at night. Sadly the manager took no notice of the many many complaints about this. May might not be hot for the Spanish but us Brits need a cool room. Sadly I hardly slept the whole fortnight which isn’t ideal when you work full time and go on holiday to re charge. Hoping management reconsider this rule for May as it will put people off going. I also struggled in the restaurant some nights so we ended up eating out 5 times in our 2 week holiday. Apart from the lack of sleep and baking hot room we did have a nice holiday. The daily entertainment run by Natalie was great fun and the majority of the evening entertainment was of a very high standard and great fun with a lovely a**osphere. The hotel is spotlessly clean and breakfast is wonderful. Dinner was mostly ok but I just found it too warm to sit and actually enjoy a meal. The very best thing about this hotel are the staff. They made our holiday ! The position of the hotel is also excellent as there are many bars and restaurants all around and we particularly loved the marina. Management just need to listen to the clientele when it comes to air conditioning and not just use the excuse that’s its due to environmental issues ! We look forward to coming next May and hope these issues have been listened to as sadly if not we will not be returning which would be really sad.

Nice rooms clean. The mirrors all smudged not cleaned that well. We have a room with hot tub and sea view the balcony is not very private at all. Breakfast is good dinner is ok all desserts very similar each night. Plenty of places to shop and go for a drink in the evening. Nice pool area.

Second visit this year. Staff are excellent as always. Food usually good but no paella throughout the whole week of my stay which was slightly dissappointing. Two sittings for dinner which was OK for us but not liked by all guests.Did not try the Italian speciality restaurant as main restaurant food choice was usually good enough . Some of the room fittings needed maintenance suchas plug sockets & bathroom fittings but not a problem for us.Evening entertainment was usuallly good but plenty going on in neighbouring hotels if you wanted a change. Natalie continues to work hard managing the activities and entertainment.Weather was extremely hot during the first week of October and the air conditioning in the room was welcome. Hotel puts on a cold breakfast for early departures but they started to clear it at 7:15am and start preparing the restaurant to open fully at 7:45am. Our pick up time was just after 7:45am and when we went to grab some food at around 7:20 there was very little available so they need to rethink how to make this work better. Overall a good well managed hotel.
