Shadowlawn Bed and Breakfast

Absolutely an amazing experience and stay at a beautiful, historic bed and breakfast. The home was truly beautiful and full of history and interesting antiquities. However, the true beauty in this home was not the home or antique pieces, Bernette, the owner, is the true gem when you stay at Shadowlawn. She goes above and beyond for her guests and truly cares for the people staying in her home. Mississippi is known for hospitality and Bernette epitomizes the spirit of hospitality in Mississippi. When you talk with Bernette, it is like talking with a friend you have known for years. The breakfast she makes is five-star quality and made from scratch. The rooms were very comfortable and well-designed and decorated. We slept like babies. We also were staying during a MSU gameday weekend, and the rates for our stay were great, especially considering the alternatives were very pricey and do not come with Bernette and her amazing personality and attitude. We highly recommend anyone visiting Columbus or Starkville to stay with Bernette at Shadowlawn. We are already looking forward to our next visit to Columbus because we already know where we will be staying, which is Shadowlawn. Why go anywhere else?

Beautiful restored stately home. Easy access and delightful hostess. Only a few minutes from Starkville and Mississippi State University. We were there for UGA vs MSU football game. We stayed in the small cottage on the grounds of the main house. Certainly met our needs for full kitchen and comfortable bed and amenities. Highly recommend location and surroundings when in the area.

The location is central, yet quiet. Our room was spacious with modern amenities and a generously sized private bathroom. The house is full of beautiful Victorian antiques. Burnette's hospitality was wonderful, and breakfast was a personal yet elegant experience.

The mansion is a true Victorian. Burnette has furnished it (at least) a couple of thousand authentic Victorian pieces. And she is a delight. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this clean elegant place. And the breakfast was equally great.

This was our second time to stay here. We booked for 3 nights originally and added a fourth at the last minute without any problem. The home, filled with beautiful antiques and history the grounds were beautiful, but the best part of our stay was our hostess Burnette. She went over and above what we expected to make sure our stay was pleasant and comfortable. Breakfasts were excellent and we even got to try her new additions one morning. We can't say enough good things about Shadowlawn but it is our "go to" place in Columbus, MS.

Spent three nights at Shadowlawn Bed and Breakfast during the Columbus Spring Pilgrimage. Beautiful home. Burnette Avakian, the owner, was a gracious hostess. We were able to spend time visiting with her and getting to know her. The highlight was a candlelight tour of the home one night. All the hosts/hostesses were dressed in period attire. We felt like we were at a house party in the 1800’s. We highly recommend Shadowlawn if you are ever in Columbus.

I’m local to Columbus but my girlfriend is not. She came to visit for the Christmas holiday. I wanted to do something special for her so I decided to stay at Shadowlawn while she was here. That was a great decision. The whole experience was great. Burnette, the owner/hostess, is very sweet and easy to talk to. The house was beautiful all over, so many antiques. The beds were comfortable. The breakfast was great. We really enjoyed our stay at Shadowlawn and our talks with Burnette while we were there. If you want something better than a plain hotel I recommend calling Burnette and booking a room. You will enjoy your stay!
