This was a really delightful place to stay . The staff were really friendly . The rooms were perfect..Super comfortable beds, that one didn’t want to get out of ..except that the breakfast in the characterful dining room was waiting . Each room had a sitting area in the garden , just a few steps away. Surrounded by rose and lavender beds . The area surrounding Old Downton Lodge was new to us, and we were surprised by how beautiful it was .

This wonderful old hotel (or restaurant with rooms) is well off the beaten track in an idyllic part of Shropshire. Our room which was a converted barn was very attractive and interesting as well as having every mod con in the room and bathroom. We used the bar, which is also very stylishly converted, for tea and pre and after dinner drinks and were fascinated by the whiskey library with more whiskeys than my husband (a Scot) had ever seen in one place. Dinner was superb and the staff in all areas were charming and helpful. In fact they couldn't do enough for you. This is the most tranquil and peaceful spot and we hope to return very soon.

3 miles down a single-track road. Excellent welcome. Good parking (electric charging available). Lovely room and bathroom (complicated lighting controls) Amazing staff. Peaceful. Relaxing. Nice bar We had a lovely stay and a great dinner.

An excellent place for a two day break . The rooms are comfortable ,the garden spectacular and the food and wine as good as it gets . The staff are friendly and also attentive and competent .Highly recommended .We would certainly return when we can.

We typically have a very high expectation of places we stay at and critique accordingly. We have frequented many similar and far more expensive boutique countryside hotels in Spain and Italy but Downton is head and shoulders above them at a fraction of the price. This hotel is far from the crowds and the tourist in a perfect English countryside setting. The staff is freindly and service is impecable. The one single negative; please replace the mattresses.

Do not hesitate to book Old Downton Lodge. Situated in the most beautiful part of the country way off the beaten track, this is a gem not to be missed. Exceptional food and accommodation in sympathetically converted farm buildings. The staff are amazing and Willem and Pippa excellent hosts. We took all the rooms with 16 friends, all of whom were full of praise.

Wonderful place for a short beak in the glorious Teme Valley, and good value too. Our room was characterful with flagged floors, stone walls and oak doors. Bed was massive and super comfortable. The staff were all brilliant, we were warmly greeted as soon as we pulled up and tea and coffee were quickly served while we enjoyed the sun in the garden. The bar and restaurant are atmospheric in the old grain barn and our taster menu was great. Particularly good was the wine flight, that subsequent investigation revealed some pretty expensive wines making it super value at £60. I could not have asked for more.

The hotel and rooms are so peaceful and very tastefully decorated. We stayed in room 8 with the four poster bed which had a huge bathroom and walk in shower. Everything was so clean and well thought out. The tasting menu and wine pairing were both top notch. All staff are friendly and helpful, a real credit to the hotel. The vodka martinis alone are worth another visit and would highly recommend you pay this fabulous hotel a visit as we hope to stay again.

The perfect place for the last night of our holiday. The buildings & our room surpassed expectations, as did the people we met during our all too brief stay. Felt welcomed from the moment we arrived. Excellent pre dinner cocktails & some of the best wine advice we've ever received, alongside a most enjoyable evening meal in unique surroundings.
