I spent 6 weeks in Wakola. From the start to the end, I felt at home. This was my first visit to Senegal (and first time in Africa!), and so everything was very new to me. But the team at Wakola were incredibly supportive, and did everything to make sure I felt at ease. They learned my name and introduced themselves, and their friendly smiles soon became a part of my daily routine. On the first night I arrived, since it was late and the hotel restaurant had already closed, a lovely staff member (Diallo) offered to walk us to the nearest restaurant. When we got there, as we hadn’t yet set up the local payment apps, he even offered to cover it. We paid him back of course, but that moment really emphasises the sense of community and togetherness that underpins the Wakola mentality. They are so hospitable. Throughout my stay, they consistently went above and beyond to make me feel at home, safe and supported. The security is top-notch too. If you’re in Dakar, come to Wakola! Special thanks to Diallo, Mietou, Abdou, and Florentin, for all your kindness.
