Six Brunton Place Guest House

Guest house with a faded shine and more appearance than substance. Apart from the heating, which should be vented, checking the electrical installations (e.g. in the bathroom) and other minor repairs, the homepage is far from reality, and we also found the housekeeper inauthentic. Our advice: don't let the overly positive reviews influence you, unfortunately we made that mistake.

This guest house is everything anyone could hope to find for a stay, owned and run flawlessly by an exceptional, talented and thoughtful woman, Hilary. The townhouse is charmingly designed and decorated by Hilary. She always goes the extra mile to create the perfect visit. The bed, pillows and bedding are all so comfortable. The breakfasts and choices are perfect and delicious. There are many added touches such as complimentary small bottles of wine, a daily fresh, glass water bottle in the room, a change of towels every day and more. The location is quiet, but a good walk to many of the Edinburgh sights. I had a 6-day, stress-free, enjoyable time here!!! Thank you very much for all your warm hospitality, Hilary!!!

Fantastic Guest House with a great host! The house felt very homely with a well equipped and clean room, with comfy bed and large bathroom. Breakfast was delightful with great options to choose from. Location was great, with a short walk into the new town and around a 20 min walk into the old town. Would definitely return!

I contacted the host the day prior to our arrival asking if we could drop our bags off earlier than the check-in time, eg 12.00noon with the official check-in being 3.00pm. The reply was that would not a problem and as she was not going to be home until 6.00pm, just ring the door bell and the cleaner would let us in. Also, our room would be ready for us. The room we had was very comfortable and well equipped. The breakfast selection was great and very nice too. The location of the guest house good as only about 15 minutes walk from the main centre of Edinburgh. Also, there was a nice reasonably priced bar/restaurant almost across the road.

We arrived early and was let in and given our keys. Even though it wasn’t check in time Hilary told us we come use the bathroom and put our luggage in our rooms, this was perfect after a long journey. The decor is lovely, we had the garden room , nice and spacious, sofa bed and i think a king size bed, nice and comfy. Tv with Sky channels. Coffee , tea, sugar, milk, water and complimentary wine. The garden was lovely, opening the french doors onto the patio, and we were greeted by Hilary’s kitten, super friendly cat as we are animal lovers we loved the cat. Iron and ironing board in the room and hairdryer. Shower was hard to work out and we did burn ourselves so be careful. Shower caps , body wash and lotion available towels nice and soft and bath robes available. The host she is the loviest person and works very hard, she is so welcoming and friendly. The breakfast was lovely we opted for the cooked breakfast and it was cooked to perfection. We checked out at 11am and Hilary said we could leave our liggage whilst we went and saw the sights for the day A 20 min walk to the town centre/ train station and leith walk where all the best restaurants are. 30 min walk to Victoria Road / Royal Mile/ Castle It is near Holyrood Palace Many Thanks Hilary for a lovely stay

Hi again, what a lovely place / guesthouse you have! We enjoyed the hospitality very much as well as the stay in total. The internal design was a highlight to us. We had an extra look at the towels in the bathroom, we found the brand and of course bought bath towels to bring back home. As we are used to walk a lot the 10 mins walk from the city centre was perfect. Thanks a lot, to you and your staff!! Best regards Ove

Now is an excellent hotel and we could not have been treated better . Making particular arrangements so we could drop of our luggage at 8am and providing Coffee when we did arrive, and arranging for the room to be available 3hours early.the room ( Playfair ) was fantastic and the bed the best we had ever slept in. It was no trouble to arrange a Taxi. The longe is beautifully appointed. The breakfast was superb. I have no hesitation in recommending a stay here and doubt you would find better. Thank you to everyone there for making our stay so special.

This is a great place to stay if you want the warmth and charm of an old Scottish home. We had a very comfortable, pleasant stay in a nice room with a spacious bathroom. Hillary and her staff were very friendly and professional and helped us with directions, additional sites to consider and arranging for a cab. The breakfasts were excellent and are enough to keep you going until beer time. Sharing a breakfast room with other guests was a bonus as we compared notes on a daily basis. This is not the place for you if you don't want to take a bit of a walk to get to the old town. It's about 20 minutes away; a very easy walk if you're in half-decent condition. I'm in my 60's and we elected to walk everywhere so we would experience more of Edinburgh. It was no problem at all. Thanks, Hillary. It was fun!

What a find!! I'd recommend anyone to go here. Our room (Playfair) was beautifully decorated, as is the whole house with great attention to detail. The Playfair room overlooks the garden and is super-quiet. The bed was so comfortable with lovely White Company bed linen. The breakfast was exquisite, the hostess super-helpful with dinner suggestions and nothing seemed too much trouble. The wine fridge in the lounge was a nice touch. All in all, cannot fault and would definite return.
