Murrayfield Park Guest House

Arrived at property same time as another guest and he phoned owner who gave us code to get in and let us know we’re to get keys for room. Room was lovely with tea and coffee facilities and comfy bed. Bathroom sink was blocked. Overall nice accommodation and close to bus stop for town.

Generally not bad, however there was no WiFi as said in the description.

The room didn't have wifi and poor reception for use of own smart phone. No one on premises to assist. No reception. A little over-priced for such basic level of service. Otherwise, rooms were OK.

Not recommended! Solid foundation for its mere 2.6-star. Rooms said to have windows, which is true except the whole room located in basement, looking through the narrow window only thing seen is vehicle plates and wheels. No wifi connection and poor signal for cellular data, ie. no chance to access the internet in your room at all. Light bulb is fixed to the socket by electrical tape. Is this even legitimate in UK? In my country this causes hotel owners fine and even suspension of the business. It is fully understandable that a family business cannot operate key card system. Letting guests collect keys from front desk is proven equivalently effective, unless the manger does not even have a proper knowledge of available keys and rooms. The hotel manager first led me to unlock a checked-in room, until I saw some others’ personal belongings on the floor. Then the manager rearranged me to another room, but there was no key to the room. Letting me wait for 20mins in the hall, the manager arrived and found out that the key has not been returned by the previous guest. Seems that personal safety and privacy are put in risk.

This property should not be let out… I can’t say anything positive about Murrayfield Park Guest House. It was a total disappoin**ent and the property presents as nothing like what you see in the photos on the booking site. Look at the photos on this review and let the owners tell you it’s the same property! Disliked · We were put in a room that was in the middle of renovations. The fire alarm was connected after I complained about the wires hanging freely from the ceiling. There were no light fittings. No handle on the bathroom door. No soap dish or toilet roll holder. No TV despite the caretaker promising one would be installed. The room hadn’t been cleaned and the caretaker vacuumed the room and fitted a smoke detector and bathroom door handle when we went out for dinner. As mentioned the room is being renovated. The shower is very small but has the most high tech shower unit I’ve ever seen. It’s so big it sticks out approximately 200mm in a 900mm shower and you knock it washing yourself effecting the water temperature and flow. The person who selected this shower and tap unit failed to consider the small size of the shower. The cleaner was off sick after our first night apparently so there garbage wasn’t emptied and there was no cleaning done nor clean towels provided. The overall property is dirty. There are paint stains on the hallway carpet. The garbage bins out the front were overflowing when we arrived and were not emptied during our 5 day - 4 night stay. There were cigarette butts at the entrance that were ignored and there for the entirety of our stay. There is no provision to leave your bags when you vacate the property to be picked up in the afternoon. This is a very basic service offered everywhere I’ve stayed. The Wi-Fi is so poor it actually says in the foyer Wi-Fi available to most rooms. This property should not have been let out. We were given the opportunity to cancel our booking but were without a car and anywhere else to stay. This property also doesn’t meet fire regulations which are posted on their wall.

We arrived after a great day at the rugby. No one in reception. My husband noticed someone had left their room keys in their lock so knocked on to let them know. On answering the door my husband asked how you get your keys to which we were told he worked for the hotel and he would get the keys….. really strange that he had a mobile phone with our Details on. He then said he didn’t work for them but would help? Any way on getting the key from a bowl on the sideboard!!!!! We entered the stinking room. Cigaret smoke. The room was tiny. Cramped. Just awful. Dirty. Just awful for the money we paid. I said this to my husband then we had a bang on the door and on answering it the guy who helped us was now demanding we leave the property as we disrespected it!!! After much deliberation and chat the gent offered a full refund for us just to leave which we accepted. Done. I don’t think so!!! No refund. No one even answers the phone to me. Denial and told we’re liars. The guy had no right to offer a refund!! And how’s that my issue!! I’ve mailed called and contacted *********** who also couldn’t give a monkeys. They refunded £23. Ridiculous. I won’t use the hotel. That’s not a hotel by the way. Nor *********** again. Joke. Absolute joke. (We did call the number on the confirmation. That girls going to have a nervous break down at some point. Poor girl.

Not a great place to stay. Cupboard in shared bathroom off their hinges, tile off bathroom wall. Dirty laundry bags in front entrance. Biggest issue we had was that there was no toilet paper in the bathroom when we arrived. There were 4 of us in the room, and the bathroom was shared with another room.(so potentially up to 6 - 8 guests without loo roll). We called a staff member on a phone number in the entrance of the guesthouse, who said he would get someone to bring us some toilet paper. The person never arrived, and we were left with no loo roll at all for our 24 hour stay. There are no shops in the near area to buy products either. Absolutely disgusting, and totally unacceptable to leave your guests without loo roll. Do better! YOUR STAFF NEED SOME URGENT CUSTOMER SERVICE TRAINING! There didn't seem to be any staff actually onsite at the guest house,(just a mobile phone number to ring), which isn't great for the customers.

Booked en-suite, but got a shared bathroom, no staff on site just a phone number. Only 1 towel and bedside lamp bulb blown, asked for those to get rectified and got tiny towel and no bulb changed. Bed very lumpy and uncomfortable. Shower covered in mould. Only one coffee serving , for £145 very poor value for money, they are clearly taking advantage of their proximity to Murrayfield which is the only positive thing about the place. Would not recommend

We just needed somewhere to sleep for 1 night and it provided exactly that. I had read the reviews but wasn't fussed as was the cheapest hotel room we could find in all of Edinburgh. Room was clean. Only 1 pillow so that was uncomfortable though. Bathroom looked recently refurbished. Furniture in the bedroom was tired. But it did the job for 1 night at a very cheap price. Tea/coffee etc available in the room. We knew we would be arriving late at night as flight was delayed, I called the hotel number in advance and explained, lady on the phone was very pleasant and gave me the code for the door and told me which room we would be in. Entered the hotel without any trouble at all.
