A Fantastic meal in a beautiful setting. We had Thai Green Curry and Fillet Steak both were Wow followed by the sticky toffee pudding which was amazing . The wine list had a lovely selection of wines with a well stocked bar having a great selection of whisky and gin. This is a must visit restaurant We will definitely be back.

Wonderful, welcoming service. Our room was very well equipped. Our hosts Roland and Monika were fantastic!! We genuinely were made to feel like part of their family rather than paying guests. Whilst having a drink in their cosy fire lit bar, Monika called to inform us that the Northern lights were putting on a show outside. So we rushed to see them and Monika took our photo which is possible the best photo we've ever had take. Breakfast was perfect and the gallery was spectacular. Probably the best place we've ever stayed and will certainly be visiting again soon. Sam and Ash

Rooms were lovely and clean, I had the room with 3 windows with a view straight over the ocean and the famous red telephone box. Rooms were provided with everything you needed, we used this a mid holiday break after driving for 2 weeks with another 2 to go. We did not leave our rooms the first day bar for breakfast, until 2pm. Breakfast was a choice of 2 items - eggs, toast, fruit, jam and tea or coffee and juice, or the additional version had yoghurt and muesli and cold cut meats as well. The bar downstairs is very cosy and the fire was lit when we arrived so it was a great place to settle with a book for awhile. We said goodbye to the owners and headed into Fraserburgh for an early dinner on the first day, there is nowhere to have dinner in Pennan, and the road is quite tight and windy so I didnt want to deal with that in the dark. I was surprised to find the towels were not changed, or in fact nothing had been done in our rooms by the time we got back. Not sure of this is normal for a B&B or if it’s because we left our rooms late. Wasnt a major issue and I didnt ask, maybe if I had they would have been done. We purchased the Aurora Package but unfortunately there was cloud cover and there were no lights on our stay. There is no refund for this, so an expensive option of £30 and the consolation was a photo of Pennan from the Gallery. Would I stay again - yes. The hosts were very welcoming and it’s a very cosy spot to be and the ever changing view is stunning.

Pennan is a truly delightful little village, one house deep & backed by huge, looming cliffs. It's a trek down the steep road with its blind bends & you have to go back up and down to find dinner, but a night here is definitely a fun experience. Not cheap, but you are paying for the location. We stayed in the front double with three windows right onto the rugged sea front & the iconic red phone box ("Local Hero" location). Basic, but comfortable room & basic but clean bathroom. "German" breakfast (the inn is run by a German couple) was tasty & leafing through the photo art on sale was enjoyable.

Stayed here before, it used to be a lovely traditional Inn with good food, a well stocked bar and friendly staff. Since my previous visit it has changed hands and become a bed and breakfast with gallery attached, the bar is still there but hours seem quite limited. They don't appear to do food anymore. The BnB it's self is clean and tidy, with small but comfortable rooms. The location is iconic, Pennan featuring in the film Local Hero, though this is not the hotel in the movie ( it didn't actually exist in reality, the magic of the movies!) it's not cheap, but you're paying for the location. Bit of a disappointment was the lack of a cooked breakfast. To me one of the joys of staying away is a traditional Scottish fry up, breakfast is available ( at an extra cost) but consists of muesli, some fruit, toast, cheese and meat, a cake, tea and juice. It wasn't bad, just not what I expected. The lack of food would be a real problem of you didn't have transport, or perhaps didn't want to drive.

The Pennan Inn is an absolute favorite spot for us and we’ve been staying there periodically since the 80’s under various ownerships and managers (prior reviews are probably posted somewhere on this site!). Our current hosts, Monika and Roland are doing a great job of upholding the standards set by prior owners and offer a warm, welcoming reception to this gem of an Inn on the sea. The accommodation remains basic but more than adequate (ours lacked a hot water tap on the bathroom sink which we found odd) and the pub, when open, remains a friendly hideaway with a warm fire and very genial landlords. Full service continental breakfast (included when booking directly) was delicious and abundant (special marks for Roland’s German coffee). Hopefully, with Covid nearly behind us, the hosts will be able to staff up a bit and expand meal offerings and public pub hours as the Inn has for decades been a vital resource to guests (and locals) with few options for food and drink in the immediate area.

Having stayed 9 years previous we were unsure what the place was like since taken over by new owners, but were more than impressed. We arrived later than we anticipated, but the lovely owners welcomed us in with open arms, even offering if we wanted to sit down and have a drink in the bar. We were informed there may be the aurora borealis that evening and to come down and see them later. We were led to our room which was very comfy and with ample amentites. We came downstairs and lo and behold there it was, the Northern lights! One of the owners was taking some images out at the pier and kindly took and image of us - they truly went above and beyond to make it a magical experience.

The Inn was a very clean and comfortable retreat in the lovely tiny seaside town of Pennan. The proprietors, Monika and Roland, were not only friendly and welcoming but made every effort to accommodate special dietary needs with tasty, generous breakfasts and delicious home-cooked soup (or sandwiches) in the evening. Monika made sure I had a sea view room, which I especially loved for falling asleep at night with the incoming tidal waves crashing against the seawall just across the road. It was an adventure getting down into Pennan and a delight to stay at this hospitable Inn. My only regret is that there were no northern lights on display during my stay; if there had been, Monika would have been on the alert to enable her guests to enjoy them. I already think about going back.

Pennan is a lovely little village. We enjoyed our stay but the sea view room was very disappointing. The bedding was of poor quality and the room itself was very tired. Much was said about the film and the phone box, how ever we would not return .
