I had been looking forward to my trip to the Canton Fair for months. Everything looked perfect in the photos of Yihe Apartments, so I booked 14 nights. Check-in was at 2:00 PM.
After a 13-hour journey, we arrived a bit early and waited patiently. By 4:00 PM, the apartment still wasn’t ready — we literally saw the owner and her assistant carrying a couch into the unit.
When we were finally allowed in, I was shocked. The bathroom was filthy, the walls were dirty, and there was an exposed electrical socket with wires hanging out. The kitchen had greasy pans covered in burnt-on oil, and the bed didn’t even have a proper mattress — just a rock-hard topper. To top it off, there were no towels. When I asked, they gave me paper-thin disposable towels — absolutely not worth a cent, let alone the price I paid.
As a business traveler, peace and comfort after a long workday is essential. I told them I wouldn’t discuss it further — I was leaving and demanded my money back: €1350 for 14 nights, nearly €100 per night.
At checkout, the owner was incredibly rude, walking away mid-conversation. They claimed they had a no-cancellation policy, and Trip.com backed them up without resolution.
I feel completely scammed. This is a disgrace to the hardworking people of Guangzhou who take hospitality seriously. Providers like this should be removed from platforms like Trip.com.
