Red Rock River Resort and Spa

This is the worst experience I’ve had at a hotel/resort and I’ve been traveling 67 years. When we arrived at the hotel there was a man that met us and let us in the back door. He gave us codes to get into our rooms . Then He got in his car and left in a hurry. We arrived before 8pm, the website said there were front desk personnel present and the restaurant was open . There was no one at the front desk . There was no one at the restaurant. Later I found in a different website that the restaurant was temporarily closed , we were not informed. We were looking forward to a “spa experience “ at the “resort”. No one was there . When I say no one was there , there was no one in the entire facility … no security , no front desk staff, no bar staff, no restaurant staff… and no other guest in the entire place . We were the only 4 people in the entire place . We roamed the entire place looking for people … no one. Think The Shining! There were for sale signs on the place and several windows were boarded up. I got the feeling that It was not safe. The front door was locked , we entered the back door … It was not locked. Therefore , anyone that wanted to enter the facility at any time was enabled to do that . That is not a safe situation. The website for the Red Rock looked great … the reality was not even close . This is false advertisement and fraudulent. I feel this has been going on awhile . Save your money don’t go to Hotsprings SD, don’t go to Red Rock resort … It is unsafe and fraudulent… btw I never write reviews but people need to be warned about this place

While this is the off season I expected at least decent wifi and the basic amenities. I got neither. Our room had a wifi connection but no internet. No mini fridge and only one small paper cup for coffee making. No microwave. I think these are very basic amenities that should always present. Very disappointing. Would not stay again.

HORRIBLE, WINDOW AC WILL NOT COOL ROOM. NO ONE WILL ANSWER PHONE, NOT STAFFED 24 HRS. NO ONE TO COMPLAIN TO. WE LEFT AND WENT TO ANOTHER HOTEL. NO APOLOGIE, NO REFUND. MANY OTHER BAD REVIEWS ABOUT AC AND CLEANLENESS. STAY AWAY FROM RED ROCK RIVER RESORT.

Terrible place to stay. Very disappointed on Service they provided . Place was very dirty not cleaned at all. No refrigerator. No hairdryer in the room. The service was not the best experience at all. I would not recommend this place, unfortunately.

When I pay $125 for a room, plus $10 for a Spa in the same place, I expect more than what I had in this place. First, the nice things: room was good, and clean and spacious. However, when we used the coffee machine, there was old coffee in it. Then, WIFI did not work at all. I believe in a place like this it is a basic service provided the price. There was nobody there during Thanksgiving. While we understand this is a family holiday, if the hotel is open somebody should be around or providing the services. For example, we need to ask for the Spa code because nobody provided it. Worse part was the Spa: showers not working, even if they ask you to have one before entering the sauna. Sauna not heating properly. Not heat in other rooms there. Not pool, nor steam room. Nobody showed us how to walk thru the facilities nor they give the extra towels they say they provided in the entrance of the Spa. I am disappointed. What it was supposed to be a relaxing day, was just a day in a pricy hotel room without internet, nor Spa. I have been in a several motels with better services for a much cheaper price.

"Spa": After upping our room package to include the "spa" we were told that the "spa" no longer included a hot tub. That missing element should have been conveyed before hand. We could not find the spa robes and neither could the hotel super. We had to call the owners. who were not on site, to get them. Waiting to use a spa that you have paid for is Not relaxing. The "spa" shower had almost 0 water pressure and the shower floor was dirty. The heated floor room was nice in concept; however, the room had a bunch of pillows strewn about the perimeter but none of the pillows had removable covers and it did not seem that that the pillows were changed regularly. If it's a spa, the pillows should be per customer. Why would I want a used pillow? The sauna was really the only space that worked. There were no instructions for saune and I ended up burning my hand when pouring water on the rocks (I'll accept human error on my part for the burn). Room: comfortable beds and the bathroom had a shower with lots of pressure and adjustable head. We were the only customers, and all the other un-occupied rooms were open for us to walk through. It was a bit creepy to be the only customers. Lobby: was desolate. The lobby was open/unlocked to the street even though there was no night manager. There were (3) of us in our room but if it had just been myself I would have felt very unsafe, As an architect I was looking forward to staying in this historic hotel. The place has so much potential and it is sad that it is not being realized.

The Red Rock River Resort is one of the oldest sandstone buildings in Hot Springs, dating back to 1891 and owned by husband/wife team Joe and Julie. The hotel is a work in progress. The Spa is functional but needs a bit more work. The rooms are beautiful and clean. Better than what I expected. Hammered by COVID, their cafe/restaurant is closed and staff is a skeleton crew. As a business owner myself, I respect their efforts to keep this historic hotel going - and glad they are. Do not expect a well dressed staff member greeting you at the small front desk. They're busy cleaning and fixing. Simply pick up the phone and Joe or Julie will greet you and answer your questions. On street parking on both sides is available. There is an old fashioned elevator. (Very cool!) I asked if I could surprise my wife with red roses in the room before we arrived. Joe accommodated me. He discretely billed at check-in and my wife was surprised with fresh flowers when we entered the room. Thanks Joe! If you want a luxury hotel - stay away. If you to stay in a clean, historic hotel - book a room. We would stay here again if we were revisiting Hot Springs.
