The Birdham at Bembridge

Have just returned from a very enjoyable three-day stay at The Birdham. My favourite things - the warm welcome we received, the softness of the bedding, excellent service from everyone, the food - delicious and freshly cooked and the silence at night. Very little on the negative side - our room was very warm, even with the radiator turned right down; finally, the bathroom was lovely and large but there was nowhere to put your toiletries, make-up etc. I would definitely stay there again if I was back in the area.

Went for dinner on a wet February evening. Received a warm welcome and attentive service. Meal was very good and a welcome change from the usual “pub grub”. The published standard menu was augmented by an a la carte menu for the day which offered plenty of choices. Wines were reasonably priced and will definitely return.

We booked this establishment because it said it had a large double bed. On entering the room, the bed was big and took up the whole room. Bed was uncomfortable (just a spring mattress) and you kept rolling towards the edge (not sure if because of the very uneven floor?) there was nowhere to put your things, a dressing table type unit with stool had the tea making items on it. The bathroom was big but nowhere to store your things no unit nothing. The towel rail was slightly loose so we didn’t want to hang a wet towel after use on it in case it came away from the wall. Behind the toilet it was dirty, overflow cover missing on the bath, and the light above the bath needed a new bulb. The whole lighting wasn’t very bright but it was ok for the time we were there. The room is extremely hot even with the bathroom windows and room window open (they only open a fraction) even with the fan on. The building is old so very creaky, so we heard every footstep from the room above, and the bathroom tap when used it sounded like it was in our room! We were offered another room but my husband was asleep and I didn’t want to disturb him, so we stayed in the room and as we were only there 2 nights. The cooked breakfast was nice and cooked fresh to order so we expected it to come from the kitchen hot, but it wasn’t. We had dinner one night and had the skewers, these were very nice. Overall staff are very nice, and location is good just a little attention to some tired areas of the room and bathroom including the window frame is needed plus a more comfortable mattress would really be good.

A really nice break at the Birdham at Bembridge. We stayed in room 9 which is on the second floor overlooking the internal courtyard so was lovely and quiet. The staff were all very friendly, helpful and efficient. Plenty of choice at breakfast including full English, pancakes, scrambled eggs and smoked salmon etc included in the price and we had a nice roast on Sunday. Live music on Friday night was also fun. The sea is an easy walk away as is Bembridge windmill. St Helens with another nice pub and restaurant and the Duver is an easy drive away.

Arrived at this humble establishment for dinner with the family, reasonably comfortable with the ambience of a donkey on roller skates. I assume the Lead waiter has just begun acting classes however, he does do a very good impression of Basil Fawlty from Fawlty Towers if you like that kind of experience, which I found highly entertaining and was a great distraction from the slop that was served for dinner. This does of course encourage customers to drink more alcohol.

Our first visit to IOW, my partner had a business meeting, turned out to be a plus, hope he has more. Our experience of the Birdham is fab, lovely room, bathroom is great, first time for ages, was provided with everything you could want i.e. body wash, lotion, shampoo etc, since COVID, most places have done away with these. Food......fab cooked breakfast, cooked to order and hot. Had the best porridge ever, cream, maple syrup and cinnamon sugar, delicious. The staff are lovely, nothing too much trouble, would recommend. Would certainly go back ❤️

We have just returned from a 3night stay at The Birdham at Bembridge for our 52nd Wedding Anniversary the staff could not have made it more special they went the extra mile - lovely room at the front of the property very cosy, housekeeping excellent- breakfast exceptional hot food on a hot plate lots of choice for all - recommend the evening menu too perfect Steaks good choice of alternatives. Large Car Park was a bonus We will be returning in the New Year to our happy place on the IOW

Excellent friendly staff made this visit a most pleasurable experience. Anthony, bar and restaurant manager, is a very happy but professional member of the team and nothing was too much trouble. Ellie, a waitress was very professional and attentive, she is a credit to Birdham. The chef produced some amazing food, which was well presented. There is one bar, three function rooms and a hotel all linked together. Two of the function rooms can be opened up into one large function room suitable for a wedding reception or any other function with, hotel facilities to boot! Set in Bembridge an idilic part of the Isle of Wight what else would you want! Live Music on a Friday night topped off our stay. Unfortunately due to building constraints there is no wheelchair access to the bed rooms which are on the first floor. Would I book again! Definitely, already booked for Nov 2023.

Last minute booking to here. Plus points: Nice location. Bar and restaurant have a good ambience. Staff pleasant and courteous. Breakfast all fine and adequate choice. Chose to eat here both evenings of our stay and meals were good. However room no 2 (king) unbearably hot even with windows open as it is situated above kitchen....and this was last weekend in September. This meant a somewhat rubbish sleep. Room small. Wardrobe a tiny cupboard in alcove...no room for anything bigger in room. Nice range of hot drinks, biscuits and coffee machine (although we couldn't workout how to use it from the diagrams). Room was well cleaned. The bathroom : its nearly the same size as the bedroom...needs work. Hot/cold indices on taps completely worn away and one missing, overflow cover on bath missing, nasty rust stain by toilet, toilet outlet somewhat grotty and needs replacing, woodwork around window needs attention. Shower over bath : Shower glass cannot be opened outwards so you need long arms to turn on the bath taps. Overall a mixed experience of the birdham at bembridge.
