Hotel Rincon de la Vieja Lodge

Rooms were dated and dirty. Mattress was hard and there was no ceiling fan as shared on the listing. There was a fan on the wall, not ideal given lack of AC. The sink did not have hot water at all. The tile grout was horribly done in the whole room and bathroom. It just was not a pleasant experience. Wind howled all night long but we had to keep the windows opened because it was hot. Breakfast was good each morning. Staff was friendly. Grounds were great. Just need to update the rooms.

We stayed for two nights in the TUI Discovery Tour. We were very tired after a long journey and were extremely disappointed with our room which wasn't very clean. The staff were lovely and keen to please so moved us to a slightly cleaner room however all the rooms seem to be in a very poor state of repair and the whole place could do with a major refurbishment. Hot water is intermittent and strength of flow is dependent on where you are. The rooms do not have a safe, hairdryer, fridge, air conditioning or coffee making facilities. The whole area is very basic and as it has a pool I would rate it 2*. On the plus side the staff are very friendly and keen to do their best. Breakfast was adequate with a reasonable choice. The pool is small but adequate and there are walking trails accessible from the hotel.

We visited as part of a small group tour and enjoyed the beautiful, well situated surroundings. Our room was well equipped and staff were very willing to help with the one thing that didn’t work, the safe. We enjoyed a meal and cocktails at the Mirador bar when the sun set.Breakfast was varied and delicious and it was great to eat outside. There seem to be range of exciting activities people can join in such as zip wire and horse riding. Highly recommended.

The staff at the hotel were beyond great. We had an emergency and I never saw people help us and make us feel so well looked after. The gentleman in reception particularly and Pedro one of the staff helped us out so much. Lovely place as well in el pais el más bonito del mundo:) Thank you/ Gracías BL and family

My experience here is always spectacular especially if this is your Second or third time. My advice is do not expect luxury. This is not a JW westin Or a Marriott. It is basic. For that you realize what you have and not to take For granted. On top of the fact that you are with nature and she can spoil you. So take a 2 or 3 day to explore this fascinating spot. Talk to locals and thrive.

I'm truly surprise at the reviews of this place here. This place is a gem! We decided a last minute trip to Rincon de la vieja and since it was the end of year everything was booked. Then we came across this place and am glad we booked it. The staff was very friendly, food was yummy (breakfast was included)! The rooms are very very simple but cute and beds were comfortable. It was excellent for our one night stay. Obviously, this is NOT a luxury hotel, so the rooms only have the basics, but the surrounding areas are beautiful and it will definitely helps (in my experience) disconnect from the busy world we live in :) I will definitely recommend they add a little piece of furniture to the bathrooms to place toiletries/clothes, etc Please note the entrance is through a private property, so there is an entrance fee (about $1.50) per person 15 min or so before the hotel. Also, once you pay that fee you'll have access to the trails and areas around where you can do walks/hikes/biking. The entrance to the national park is just around the corner so this is the perfect place to stay to enjoy the park. I'd definitely recommend having a car. The place is kind of remote IMO and without a car might be difficult to move around. I'll definitely recommend for one or two nights stay.

Stayed here without a car, it bck onto the RDLV national park and you can walk literally out of the gate and into the park, to waterfalls, hot springs etc. SO whilst location wise it is quite remote (particularly if no car... can't really walk to anywhere for food etc), it was great for what we wanted. Did 2 long (8 and 11 mile) walks from the lodge. The grounds are decent, very nice chilled atmosphere and very pretty sunsets to watch from your veranda. The pool is small but very inviting and looked nice and clean. Plenty of spots to chill with a cold beer around the grounds. There is a restaurant on site that does breakfast and dinner (maybe lunch? wasn't there during the day). The restaurant is OK, food is OK, don't expect great things. Very helpful and friendly staff, but felt a bit like it's the first time they have ever run a restaurant. Ran out of rum on our first night!!!!!!!! Cabins are BASIC but have a decent warm shower, a cupboard and the bed is fine. Ours had a double and 2 singles (we are just a couple) so actually had loads of space for us. Walls are timber and thin, earplugs useful just because of the frogs/crickets/monkeys/birds making a noise. No aircon in ours, but we had a fan that made a very annoying ticking noise. Nice veranda for chilling on. BRING GOOD INSECT REPELLANT - you are basically in the jungle.

I don’t understand the lukewarm reviews for this lodge. The grounds are immaculately maintained and very beautiful. Our endearingly rustic cabin was squeaky clean and comfortable. The hiking trails starting on the grounds were really nice. There are amazing volcano and nature sounds. Ok, the restaurant menu is perhaps a bit limited and we had a tough time getting the shower temperature right, but let’s not quibble. It was a great choice to spend the night so that we had just a short drive to our flight departing from Liberia and we’ll stay longer next time.
