1869 Principe Real Hotel is an absolute gem in the heart of Lisbon! It's a perfect blend of modern and traditional design combined with exceptional hospitality. We enjoyed every second of our stay and couldn't recommend this place more. Looking forward to returning one day!

I wouldn’t hesitate to book at this hotel at all! It is romantic, adorable and cute, but also modern and urban. The staff is just amazing! Helpful whatever you ask For! The cleaning is top, the breakfast is just enough to start a splendid day in Lisbon. And the location is also good, with a lot of options nearby! Fantastic!

This is an excellent boutique hotel in a quiet street just below the square in Principe Real-a vibrant part of Lisbon with Botanical Gardens, Museums, Restaurants and great views across the city. Nothing was too much trouble for the excellent people who run the place, and a particular thanks to Francesco for doing his best to ensure we had a very good stay. He, and also Hugo were , always available with advice on where to visit, how to get there, where to eat-and even down to booking taxis and giving travel recommendations. Those who looked after our room and breakfasts were also excellent. The breakfasts were good, the beds very comfortable, and the rooms spotlessly clean. Most rooms are accessed via the central stair case, but you are not expected to struggle up or down with your cases.Access to the hotel once you`re signed in is via key code, as is the case for your room. As this is Lisbon many of the places to be visited are down hill from the hotel-Barro Alto, Alfama, Chiado, for example , are all within an easy stroll. Getting back for those not fancying an uphill challenge is straightforward by reasonably priced taxis, or of course the Trams. All in all this is a very good base from which to explore the city, particularly if you are looking for an excellent welcome and people who care about your visit and go that extra mile.

Lovely large, bright room with high ceilings and French windows overlooking a quaint side street — and decorated with traditional blue and white tiles. We happily left the windows open for fresh air — had pleasant weather — but there is an A/C unit. The bathroom was spacious and clean. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. Excellent location — good restaurants, bars, cafes, and a leafy park nearby to escape the hustle and bustle of the city. The property is operated like a high-end B&B — meaning it is not staffed for 24 hours and there is no type of food service available other than continental breakfast and an “honor bar.” Breakfast was fine — pastries, fruit, meats and cheeses — but nothing special. Would have expected a bit more for the expense — equivalent to that of full service hotel. Also, we’d have liked an in-room fridge and more/larger/higher-quality bath towels or a bathrobe. High marks for the service, location, decor, and comfort — worth the price.

Absolutely first class!! The hosts provide outstanding service, the rooms are exquisite and very clean, and the location is in a great area with plenty of shopping and dining options…all while close to everything without the hustle and bustle. Could not recommend highly enough.

I would strongly recommend this hotel. The description as a B&B is not fair - it’s a personal boutique hotel, with lovely rooms, very friendly staff, a great breakfast without the smell of bacon and sausages, but with pastries and fresh fruits. We will definitely come back to this hotel again!

We stayed here for two nights whilst exploring Lisbon. The hotel is very tastefully decorated and our room was perfect for what we needed (comfy bed, air-con, nice bathroom, balcony, sufficient storage). Francisco (manager) was really personable and was on hand to provide advice and information about Lisbon (in perfect English!). The hotel was within about 10 minutes walking distance of Bairro Alto, and there is plenty of restaurants/bars/off-licences within a short walking distance. Breakfast was continental-style (meats, cheeses, pastries, bread, yoghurt, cereal, boiled eggs, juice/smoothies, coffee machine). The only thing to note is that the stairs up to the rooms are quite steep, which wasn't a problem for us, but may be more tricky if you're less steady going up/down stairs. I don't think there was a lift present, but Francisco helped us carry out luggage to our room (top floor). We would definitely stay here again, and perhaps upgrade to a slightly bigger room/suite if we were staying longer. We would definitely recommend this hotel to friends & family!

What a magical place! This was our first visit to Lisbon and the Principe Real area is just perfect - near to the Botanical Gardens (wish we had left more time to explore this properly), A Cervicheria restaurant - a "must" and incredible Solar Antiques (huge selection of antique tiles and Faience Pottery). The hotel is just charming - small, boutique with super-comfortable beds, lovely linen and great decoration plus a glorious, huge bathroom and balcony. Very friendly and helpful staff (thank you, John) who had amazing local knowledge and were on hand whenever we needed them. Delicious breakfast (good selection of yoghurts, hams, cheese, quince marmalade and really good coffee). Despite the proximity to great restaurants, museums, shops etc it was a gloriously quiet and peaceful retreat to return to at the end of the day. We will definitely go and stay at their latest offering, "Almadina" in Porto, on our next visit to Portugal - just perfection!
