We had a great stay at Palacio do Visconde. It's situated in a great location, at the northern edge of central Lisbon. We were there 3 days in mid-April and walked every day down to the corniche area by Terreiro do Paco and the Praca Rossio/Praca da Figueira, it took 15-20 min. The walk in is all downhill, whereas it's a climb to walk all the way back up. But the hotel is well-served by public transportation- it's an easy 7 min walk from Intendente station on the Metro Green line, and the famous 28 Tram passes right by the hotel front door. The hotel is a small boutique one, with less than 20 rooms. They take their nickname 'The Coffee Experience' quite seriously, with three baristas on staff who personally select the hotel's many coffees from the coffee producer a couple doors away. We booked a Superior room which was extremely spacious- there was a big salon with a comfy couch, table and chairs and floor mirror and a separate bedroom with a very comfortable mattress (a Portuguese version of a posturpedic). The sheets and duvet and pillows were all high quality, and soft and comfortable. Both rooms were light filled in the morning with oversize casement windows that opened and in the bedroom you could walk out onto a tiny narrow balcony. For night time, the windows had neat little built in draw down shades that darkened the room fine. The bathroom was modern with a nice walk in shower that was fine for the both of us. We were not disturbed at all by road noise overnight and the neighborhood gets quiet after 10 PM, at least for the Sunday-Tuesday nights we were there. There are several low key but good restaurants within 2 min in many directions, we enjoyed Maria the Food Hub (choices were healthy but tasty, and light but very filling, including some delicious desserts) and Retrogusto an inexpensive but well done pizza house. We had breakfast at the hotel every morning- it was very filling, it's full service, and the coffee of course is top rate. The servers and the entire staff are really friendly and very helpful for tips on dining out or siteseeing. The hotel for us was a perfect choice for 3 days in Lisbon and we'd definitely come back to stay here again. Little known fact that the hotel doesn't brag about- there are 7-8 mural size paintings done by Bordalo II with the artist's impressions of famous Lisbon sights.
