YHA Idwal Cottage

The chap working here was warm and friendly (Jurgen?). He was very helpful and happy to chat, also recommended walking routes and places to visit. We were in room 10, cosy and clean, although very hot, we weren't able to turn down the radiator and resorted to opening the window. Super location for Tryfan. The communal spaces were clean, comfortable and well equipped. We enjoyed our stay despite the weather!

Stayed here for a few nights whilst hiking in Snowdonia with some friends. The hostel is in an ideal place to stay if you want to climb Glyder Fawr and Glyder Fach, and it is only a short drive down the road to find parking, if you want to hike Moel Siabod. Sorting out parking at the hostel was a little tricky - there are machines you have to enter your registration in by a certain time in order to not get charged, but the receptionist was helpful in explaining how to do it. The shared shower facilities were small with limited ventilation, but this wasn't really an issue. There is a visitors centre next to the hostel, providing weather forecasts, suggested routes and other information. There is a warden's office there as well, should you want to talk to someone about your route choices.

What are fantastic experience excellent hostel excellent location and excellent staff Jerome, Saskia, Lynwen and Marc were very welcoming and extremely informative. I highly recommend a visit to this beautiful Hostal and area

Overall a nice experience a bit soured by the ending. The woman working here was lovely and accommodating. Unfortunately the younger man working here kicked us out in the cold even though we had vacated our rooms early before checkout and the hostel was empty. Our train home was very late so we felt that asking us to leave the premises immediately and especially after we had paid money to stay for two nights was inappropriate. The man was additionally quite rude during this interaction too. This was a shame. Other than this, everyone is kind and the facilities are good.

Thank you for a friendly warm welcome to two tired walkers. the room and facilities were just what we needed, drying room, self catering kitchen, dining room etc Furthermore in the morning we were pointed in the right direction and an old walking pole found to replace my broken pole. I so appreciated that on our third and final day of walking the Welsh 3000's with tired legs!

Ideal location a lovely little hostel with good clean facilities & parking with really pleasant staff providing a brilliant base for some fantastic walks . A self catering kitchen only due to the hostels size but a great kitchen & dinning area so no problem if you are organised with pubs circa 15mins away if needed!

Great location, very friendly and helpful staff and a very comfy bed which was great after a long day walking up and down the mountains of Snowdonia. As a Coeliac it was also great that they had a gluten free beer option on offer. Would definitely recommend and stay again

Brilliant location and everything you need for a weekend away hiking. The member of staff on duty was very helpful and very friendly, really enjoyed my stay 😊 It was difficult at times with no Wi-Fi so always best to take that into consideration.

My 2 sisters and I stayed here at the weekend. Perfect location to climb Glyder Fawr + Fach, it is located at the start of the walk. Convenient parking next to hostel. A very warm welcome after a long walk by a friendly lady. Rooms were very warm and toasty, there was a sink in the room and radiator. There is a dry room, cosy lounge, large dining room (decorated with old climbing gear and big map of area) and a large kitchen that was so well equipped with all you need for self catering. Towels are available to rent and hairdryer just ask at reception. Slept very well in comfy bed, rooms were warm and clean and could be ventilated by open window. Shower room and toilet were clean, sanitising spray available to use although everywhere was immaculate so no worries during covid. Would highly recommend for walkers as it is just down the road from Snowdon, Pen y pass and Llanberis. Thank you to the staff, a credit to YHA :)
