OYO Kirkconnel Hall Hotel

I found this place by accident. The hotel I had booked accidently gave me a single, and there were no other rooms left, so they recommended the Kirkconnel. And I'm so glad they did. Met a lovely couple with a cute dog called dilly. They were so welcoming. The place gave me old, warm and cosy vibes. The room was clean, the pillows were fluffy, the temp was nice. I couldn't fault this place at all. I'd love to come back here and stay again.

What a wonderful resting spot after a day of travel from the States. A cool and clammy day outside was relieved by a warm fire in the fireplace and great conversations around the crackling hearth with fellow travelers from Germany and Scotland. The local brews and ciders were an added touch and the rooms were modern, clean and spacious. Check out the extensive antiques collection just off the exquisite dining room where we had a tasty breakfast before heading further north.

OK, so it’s not the Ritz. But I think that many of the negative reviews on here might not be so bad if people had realistic expectations. This place is quirky, REALLY QUIRKY!! Yes, it’s really quite odd. For us, we liked it very much though we understand that it will not be to everybody’s taste. It’s very much Fawlty Towers meets Steptoe and Son. John the owner is extremely friendly and helpful, though calling him a hotelier is a bit of a stretch. The building is beautiful but in need of a little TLC. The ceilings and light fixtures are really lovely. There’s a‘ballroom’ filled to the rafters with bric-à-brac and antiques. There’s quite a bit of junk but also some really lovely and interesting stuff. I see on here that it’s £170 per night to book and if I paid that, I’d be disappointed too, however you can book this on Google for between £70 and £80 per night, (reasonable). We didn’t stay in the hotel this time, but on our next trip to Lockerbie we will be checking in.

A lovely experience. Friendly and ultra helpful staff. Lovely room. Great little bar with good company. Fantastic breakfasts. All the hotel was very clean and we'll organised. Would highly recommend. Will be back.

Dear oh dear ,what can I say about this place that doesn't include a swear word . Completely run down ,old building that must have been fabulous in its hey day . Now it is just sad ,dated and not a nice place to be at all. But let's think of a positive thing to say , the beds were comfy, but sleeping was almost impossible from what sounded like a herd of elephants in the room above . No sound proof at all. Don't know what was going on with curtains in the room ! Horrendous . Breakfast was another disaster , John the owner /manager or whatever is title is, made us feel as welcome as a bacon at a Jewish wedding . Could not wait to leave , will never ever return . Not sure why anyone would want to stay at this hotel. We were only there one night ! So sorry to say John your hotel is not fir us .

What lovely place to stay. Owners were great hosts and made three tired cyclists very welcome. A great location with nice rooms and comfortable beds topped off with a superb breakfast to send us on our way. Very grateful for the warm and hospitable welcome.

My friend ànd me booked a night here on the way home from a very long ride, touring the highlands & islands of Scotland. We hadn't stayed here before, but I will definitely be staying again. The building is amazing, with an abundance of character. The host to was a fantastic fella called John, who couldn't have been more helpful and friendly. The room was spotlessly clean, warm, comfortable and with a nice big bath. The bar downstairs was well stocked, with very comfy seating to relax in after a long day's riding. And to make a great stay even better, the breakfast before we left was a brilliant continental munch. Overall, our stay here was really good, and for the price, it was great value for my hard earned money. Forgot to mention the lady who looked after us at breakfast, as she was a lovely lady who couldn't do enough for us. Thank you.

Excellent B & B with the charm of a traditional hotel. The hotel has an interesting history. Extensive continental breakfast included. Very handy for the motorway and a short walk into Ecclefechan for evening food.

Lovely, friendly hotel, comfortable and clean with a good breakfast. The building was of particular interest to us and we loved the historic artifacts. We wondered whether being near the motorway would be noisy but slept soundly and would definitely book again.
