Premier Inn London Docklands (Excel)

One of the best compared with other hotels in this region.

I really don't understand what all the bad reviews are about personally as we had an excellent stay while we were at the hotel and cannot really fault it at all. We were here for the London Marathon, and it was such a perfect location to get about London as the DLR is literally 2 minutes down the road. The staff are extremely friendly and polite and can't do enough for you. They even put out drinks and protein bars for the runners on the day. The room was extremely clean, and people complaining about the temperature? There is a thermostat in the room so you can change it yourself. Food in the restaurant was really nice, and again, the staff was super friendly and nice and couldn't do enough for you. Continental breakfast was great, lots to choose from, and the full English looked good too. Like I said, we had such a great stay and would definitely stay here again. I'm actually planning my next stay for Christmas.

Great hotel. Perfect location for Excel and O2. The only downside is that the air conditioning doesn’t go below 19 degrees. I don’t sleep well in a hot stuffy room. Too noisy to open the window as room was on the DLR and airport side. I mentioned the air conditioning when we checked out and was told it doesn’t go below 19 degrees. I hope this won’t be the same in summer!

The hotel itself was great. Clean and tidy upon arrival with the room I was given being spacious however, small issues started to become more noticible the longer we stayed. Upon arrival I noticed scaffolding around the hotel and every morning there was constant noise coming from the workers who are doing work on the hotel. Whilst I wasn't disturbed in my sleep by them, the noise could easily wake someone who wakes up easily due to noise. The other issues we had involved the bathroom. The toilet seat, upon arrival, wasn't on correctly so I had to spend some time trying to attach it myself and during me attaching the toilet seat I noticed that the bathroom door didn't lock due to the deadbolt being too low compared to the gap created for it. Again the issues are very minor but still issues that should be fixed.

If you want to check in late as they dont have rooms ready or eat tasteless food for breakfast then this is the hotel for you. I’d advise going elsewhere if you want a nice place to stay. The reception staff could do with re- training!

Two nights in a row was not able to order the wine I requested, no problem at all with that, however was then Presented with 2 alternatives. I know both brands well and asked for the cheaper wine. On my bill at the end of the evening was charged for the most expensive wine and when I queried this was told this was the cheaper of the two. Discussed with the manager who said that they gave me the right wine and couldn’t refund me. On the way out of the restaurant checked the wine list snd was given the wine that cost £2.50 more than the alternative that I was shown. This happened 2 nights in a row. Room was not cleaned or refreshed during a 4 night stay/ no replacement tea bags or milk supplied. Very poor attitude from all staff capitalising on the location and an organisational culture of ripping of the customers. I have stayed in many Premier Inns and this was the only one that has been extremely poor and I think it comes from poor management.
