The White Swan

The bedroom was clean but quite cold and very dim lights. The place was advertised as bed and breakfast and restaurant with pub food. There was no food whatsoever and was told to walk down the street. There was a live band in the pub that was so loud we were unable to sleep one night until gone midnight. All I can say is will will not stay again.

I see Trip Advisor lists the White Swan’s property amenities as having free breakfast but when my husband and I got there, we were told there was NO KITCHEN, so NO BREAKFAST! We weren’t told that on booking. Had to go down the road to the Advocate Arms Hotel for all our meals, which were all lovely, and we’d have definitely stayed at the Advocate had it not already been fully booked for the date we wanted. On arrival, we were told there would be a singer in the lounge that night and we might hear music in our room – that was an understatement, the music was so loud, it sounded like the singer was in our room with us! I had asked when the music would be finishing and was told @ 11pm but it went on way after that and seemed to get louder towards the end. This inn should not be taking in paying guests for accommodation, it really looks like it’s on its last legs, the rooms are very small with nowhere to put anything (we couldn’t get anything out of our suitcases) and if the owners want to stage live music, they cannot expect to have guests trying in vain to sleep upstairs.

The room was very basic could do with a deeper clean couldnt walk bare foot on floor as could feel muck in carpet bathrooms are nice lovely modern shower we were suppose to have breakfast but not provided also not informed before our visit only stayed 1 night instead of 2 as the saturday evening you had to drink from plastic glasses not good

We went to the White Swan as on their web site it states food served Tuesday to Saturday 5-9 pm. When I asked today, Tuesday 23 May, at the bar I was told very abuptly WE DONT DO FOOD ON MONDAYS AND TUESDAYS. I said that we were there because on their website is says that food would be served on Tuesdays. Again we were told in a louder voice with an unpleasent tone I'VE TOLD YOU WE DONT DO FOOD AND IT IS NOT ON THE WEBSITE. At this point I got my phone out to show her that it clearly states food served from Tuesdays. It was then she became agressive and said DO'NT CARE WHAT IS SAYS WE HAVEN'T DONE FOOD ON TUESDAYS FOR MORE THAN 3 YEARS, YOU MUST BE WRONG. I tried to show her the web page of the white swan but she turned her back and walked away from us. We were gobsmacked at her rudeness and agressive manner. we have never seen such rudeness!

The room itself was clean but tatty - the en-suite had a rusty heated towel rail mould on the ceiling and a round toilet seat on a square toilet There was black mould on the bedroom wall beside the window There was no information about housekeeping or phone numbers for emergencies We discovered that there is NO BREAKFAST although it clearly states that on their website There was nobody there the next morning when we checked out and we had no idea what we were to do with our door key Avoid this place

Only ate in the 'bistro' but it not the greatest. Food nothing like on the menu and just about edible - OK if you like cheap sliced bread sandwiches I guess. Staff too busy staring into their phones to use 'please' or 'thankyou'. Two large dogs in and out of the room which the waitress enjoyed playing with before delivering the meals.

please look on booking .com for full review, i wrote too much to repeat on here. i only wish i had photos to back up what i said. avoid at all costs. it is not a b and b.. rooms are not tired they are retired. they are using photos from years ago to advertise. the place is run down. my partner does not drive so when we got there after a 5 hour no stop trip all i wanted to do was eat and sleep. it was not nice but after all that driving without food anything was welcome but never ever again will i or my wife set foot in this establishment again

landlord is up his own **** stay well clear go to the pub in the market place he will run this pub into the ground im sure this is his plan then, it can be turned into flats foods poor, beers off prices are too high i hate to think what its going to be like on race day or the st patricks day meet they will never cope one eye on cctv all the time police on speed dial

This used to be a cracking pub to go to for a quiet meal. Since its been taken over you are no longer able to sit in the dining room and have to eat in the front of the pub where there are only about 8-9 tables so very lucky to get a table and is rather loud with some of the regulars. The staff used to be great there, now it appears to only have a 15 year old who works the bar who also serves the food and a woman who cooks the food who looked miserable. Bar service was also slow due to only the one lad doing all the work.
