Residence San Pietro Barisano

We had a nigh**are experience staying here. On our second night there, we found multiple bedbugs in our bed. I miraculously managed to capture the first one we saw, and then after that we saw two more. After seeing the first bed bug we pulled up all the sheets and linings and saw the telltale signs of bedbugs: blood spots on the mattress cover, black/brown residue in the corners of the pillowcase, etc. Of course the biggest evidence was literally seeing multiple bedbugs crawling around. The infestation was extremely severe. After realizing this, we've been noticing bites that resemble bedbug bits in the last few days -- we did spend one night in the bed and it seems like the insects bit us all over. We've found a ton of bites on us since spending the night there. It was a horrible experience, and we had to ditch our luggage, and for good measure we threw out some of our clothing as well. It would have been too risky to keep our luggage, since we did find bedbugs crawling in our clothes in our luggage once we noticed the issue and inspected everything. The bedbugs could have easily burrowed in the various linings of our luggage and bags. We had a flight out the next day and we had to rush to a laundromat to hot wash our clothes and also purchase new luggage. All in all this was a very expensive problem, and we lost some nice luggage, shoes, and clothing in the process. When we booked it, there were no reviews stating an issue with bedbugs. However, a few weeks before we arrived, it appears another guest had the exact same issue. If we had known that before arriving, we would not have come to the property. It seems like the property did not take the proper precautions in dealing with the issue after being alerted about it, and it clearly has gotten worse since. We're lucky we noticed this when we did. Otherwise we might have brought the bugs home in our luggage with us and caused an infestation in our own home. We've had to hire bed bug dogs in our home city to ensure that we didn't bring any home with us. We, along with our friends, booked 2 rooms. In the property's defense, they immediately agreed to refund our room (but not our friends' room). Our room was the only one with evidence of bedbugs. I would recommend against staying here until the property has taken the necessary steps to definitively rid their place of bedbugs.

bedbugs and rude staff!!!! I have never tried such bad service. my mother and I were meet with a really rude attitude by the elder couple that own the place. the room was actually okay except for really moldy shower curtains. 10 minutes after going to bed I noticed a really really big bedbug crawling up on my shirt. I stood up and then saw that there were bedbugs everywhere. we quickly gathered our thing and went outside. I texted them and called their number over 10 times while we waited outside but they didn’t answer. the next day they finally wrote back but accused is of bringing the bedbugs and said that we needed to pay them for a special trea**ent of the room and said that he was going to report us. we went back to check out and get the last of our stuff, and when we got there he was really mad and had a really aggressive behavior, he didn’t want us to write to booking and when we didn’t want to go with him into the room he started yelling at us in Italian and saying we had bugs on us and in our luggage. we got out of there is fast as possible and where in total shocked.

We loved the sassi and Matera so much we wanted to extend our stay from 1 night to 2 . Our original accommodation, which was twice the price, couldn't accommodate us for an unexpected 2nd night, so we walked into the San Pietro Barisano Residence, which was right next door. The owner didn't speak English well, but it wasn't an issue. He was friendly and helpful. The room was a typical sassi cave, nothing to fancy, but the shower and shower pressure was the best iv had in 3 weeks travelling around Italy! The room was basic but clean, and the breakfast was simple but satisfying. To sum up, if you're looking for value for money to stay in a hotel in the sassi in one of the best locations, then this is the one for you.

Familiar and warming place. Espectacular cuicine with tradicional taste. Each dish is a surprise that mixes art with local flavor. Excelente winnery. The breakfast is sunsuose. The rooms are an unique experience of moderno confortable troglodite. We recomnend the place.

Abbiamo trascorso qui un sabato notte molto piacevole. Personale gentile e disponibile. Camera pulitissima, calda ed accogliente. Ottime le torte della colazione. Era la nostra prima volta a Matera: esperienza particolare di dormire nei sassi

Llegamos el 21/10/23 al hotel con mi señora y mi hijo aproximadamente a las 18 hs. Cuando no dieron la habitación el olor a moho era tan intenso que no se podía soportar, hablamos con el dueño para solicitar el cambio de habitación pero nos dijo que como habíamos utilizado el baño ya no era posible realizar el cambio. Nos dijo que al otro día podía darnos otra habitación. Pese a haber pagado las dos noches y el impuesto de turismo, tomamos la decisión de irnos a otro hotel, obviamente no nos devolvieron el dinero abonado. Simplemente hay que leer bien las opiniones... Posto magnifico, ubicazione ottima e proprietari super gentili. Colazione molto buona. Sono stata una notte col mio compagno e ci siamo trovati benissimo. Aprendo la porta della camera ti ritrovi immerso in un paesaggio a dir poco stupendo
