We had tried all other QLD Spicers, so decided to now try Balfour. I was a little unsure about its location, but that was the big surprise : New Farm is a lovely area, with super easy access to the city, the river (with Howard Smith Wharves and ferries) and popular precincts. It turned out the best location to watch the New Year's fireworks. There are about 6/7 parking bays around the back of the property ; it is a little tight and we were lucky to get the last vacant spot. We had an easy, friendly check-in with Jack, Manager, who showed us to room 8 on the ground floor. The room is elegant and clean, but we found it rather cramped - which is not unusual for a city hotel. It had a tiny outdoor area with metal table & chairs. The bathroom had both rain-shower and bath ; all toiletries are plenty and super luxurious, which is standard Spicers fare. There is a small rooftop bar, seating probably no more than 20 people ; some mediocre views, but a very nice spot for pre-dinner drinks. Breakfast can be had outside on the veranda and is super sensational : healthy and delicious. The Balfour is truly a boutique hotel : small, very personal, friendly service, exquisite atmosphere, stylish and relaxing. That comes with a steep price tag, but occasionally one deserves to indulge . . .

After a good night sleep in a good bed, we discovered how lovely this hotel is. It’s located within a 15 minutes walk from the centre in a quiet part of the town. The employees are great: friendly, helpful, interested, just so nice 😍. And then, the cosy roof top bar…we had a lovely time! Thanks guys, for a great stay in Brisbane, Piet and Thea, The Netherlands

Really good value for money if you get the breakfast & dinner included rate. Obliging staff, charming Suite accommodation, very good onsite restaurant that is worth a visit even if you’re not staying at the hotel. Great location!

The hotel is a converted home which is quite unique but it is off the beaten path from the lights and activity of Brisbane, which I found disappointing. We were immediately upgraded to a suite in the "other building" which is another converted home about two houses down. My travel mate and I are both over 55 years old and it was a bit of a challenge to lug two large suitcases up a flight of stairs (no elevator!). The room was very generously sized with a lovely shower and soaking tub as well as a kitchenette with coffee maker, teapot and fridge. Our tours were early so we were not able to enjoy breakfast there and reception doesn't open until 8am. It was very clean and nicely appointed but after the caliber of our prior hotels, this one really did not measure up.

The staff at this hotel and the customer service are beyond exceptional! Special shout out to Elizabeth, Lara and Jerry for taking such good care of us, answering all our questions and providing great suggestions. This is a sweet boutique hotel and feels like home.

Amazing! Staff were fabulous, nothing was too much trouble. From arrival to departure everyone was friendly and very service focused. Food in the restaurant excellent. Balcony dining was relaxing, hard to believe you are in the city. Rooms small but modern and clean with everything you need. We will be back!

We just had one night here with dinner B&B. It is a great peaceful location. So much better than a giant impersonal Marriott or Hyatt. An excellent spot for work meetings. Rooms and common areas were well designed. Roof top bar was fabulous! Staff were professional but also very friendly and caring. Food was a bit disappointing (too much sugar in savoury dishes) but we are hard to please and our expectations were very high from reading a review in the Sydney Morning herald.

We were super-impressed by our three night stay at this little boutique hotel in New Farm. We were in "Simla", the annex building which had some art deco features and was perhaps built in the thirties. Our ground floor suite was spacious with a large bathroom, and a sunroom as well as a spacious bedroom. Very comfortable bed, very quiet, and scrupulously clean. And what a great location - only a short walk down to New Farm Park and to Fortitude Valley in the other direction and about three minutes down an escalator to Howard Wharf, so lots of restaurants nearby, as well as easy access to the brilliant Brisbane ferry system. We've stayed in a number of different areas in Brisbane but New Farm (and Spicers Balfour) will be our first stop in future. Highly recommended.

The positives first. The gentleman (host) that sat us to our table on Saturday for our Mother's Day high tea was delightful! What a gem. Very personable and professional. Our table waiter was good too (no complaints at all). Efficient and pleasant. The building is gorgeous and I would imagine with the plumeria in full bloom it would be spectacular! Now the cons. Parking was a pain. There are 8 spaces in the back of the building and other than that, it is street parking. The high tea was so ordinary and nothing special. For $ 99 pp, more effort should have been made to create delicious and eye appealing delicacies. What we got was average fare (sadly on the bottom of the list of all the high teas we have had). The scones tasted like stodgy flour. Not pleasant at all. Not what we expected for a 5 star hotel/restaurant. We wouldn't go back for high tea.
