Catlins Newhaven Holiday Park

What a gem of a place. Beautiful setting. Super clean room, kitchen and amenities. Very easy to book and friendly owner. I would recommend this place. We had everything we needed. The host was helpful. The bed was comfy and we were warm. Really nice place

We had been held up with flights and did not get there till nearly midnight. The owners had left the key in the door, lights on and a lovely note welcoming us and giving us a map of the area, tide times for the next day and wifi password. Throughout our stay they were friendly and helpful with advice and local knowledge. Would definitely stay there again.

This campground was an ideal base for 5 days exploring the Catlins region. We were able to get accommodation with single beds and a spacious lounge and kitchen nearby. The showers were hot and activated by a $2 coin which was supplied at check in (1 for each day of our stay). A 3 minute walk and you are on the beach at Surat Bay.

Very comfortable, clean and fresh cabin with cooking facilities and bathroom. Hosts were very welcoming and helpful and expedient in unblocking a shower waste. Not a problem. Very happy with our 3 night stay. Thank you

It was a very isolating place and upon arrival there was trouble with my booking which made me feel uncomfortable as I had booked this back in May. There was hardly anything to do and I couldn’t ring home as the place is out of service. The cleanliness of the cabins and facilities could be alot better and there were a few people that commented on that together.

Fantastic stay, awesome hosts very accommodating! Epic location beach is brilliant and private with gorgeous views. Highly recommend for anyone wanting to get away for a few days or on holiday will be staying again!

It seems many people skip the Catlins coast - a mistake in our view as it's one of the quietest and wild parts of NZ. The friendly owner here has made his almost off-the-grid place personal and different. It may be a bit old and tatty around the edges but it's honest and we had a good night's sleep and clean hot coin-in-a-slot showers in a warm room in the morning with a campervan pitch in sight of the sea. The pluses outweigh any minuses and I would go back again

Just took the new tent for a test run overnight with an 8-year old. Was windy, so nice to have the tent site right up against a thick hedge. Having a trampoline, bikes, scooters, lawn chess plus games (and a TV that everyone only used for the news) in the lounge kept the kid busy for hours moving between things to do. Access to the beach is easy and offers a great walk, although high tide + a juvenile sea lion made life interesting when there is only a few metres beach between the water and the gorse and the young sea lion decides to make himself at home. The lady in the Orange Roughy coffee cart next door (go right at the beach access before the bridge to the DOC car park) said he chases everyone (read the signs at the DOC carpark about how to keep your distance if you are not familiar with sea lions), but it was a bit of an experience that comes with being that close to the wildlife. Only a short drive to the Four Square shop in Owaka too if you forget anything, but the kitchen was kitted out with everything you might need to cook and clean, and the free BBQ saw a lot of people cooking bacon on them in the morning. Would not hesitate to come back with the whole family. Can't beat the price for a campsite these days either.

We had a great time adventuring around the catlins. The camp site is in a great location for exploring. We stayed in a cabin. Unfortunately the place is past its best by date, it’s tired and tatty and the communal lounge and kitchen is a real jumble of tat and crap - guitars in the lounge with 2 strings, floor lamps with no bulbs etc etc. Shame.
