This is a nice place. Near the water ( lovely harbour ) but designed in such a way that one cannot see the water from your unit. However the unit I had was roomy, clean and comfortable. The welcome was friendly and warm. The biggest problem was the security. The key could not be taken out of the lock. I reported it and even though the lady was friendly she was not concerned about my security. "the locks are tricky !". I had to mount chairs at the entrance door as anyone who could use the 'tricky' lock could have entered during the night. This issue needs to be attended to

We loved our stay at The Lighthouse Motel. The rooms were clean & comfortable. The beach, across the road, had a beautiful outlook of the sand dunes and harbour. I enjoyed the well maintained gardens that surrounded, as they were bright with colours of hibiscus, roses and more. A more than adequate range of restaurants were within an easy stroll. Thank you for smiley, welcoming service. Will definitely come again.

It’s a great location and the site and rooms are spotless and the grounds superbly maintained . Not much happens locally so you do need to plan that said it’s a great base to explore . The owners and staff are very helpful and always have a smile for you . No air con in rooms so would be warm in height of summer

Pricey for what you get, dated, but very clean. Although stated, NO beach, sea or garden view. Very comfy bed & helpful to have suitcase bench. Checkin was most efficient and friendly. The location is its’ saving.

The motel was very comfortable, but compact. We chose the location to break up the trip to Cape Reinga via the West coast route. The dining options in town were limited, but there was some tasty food and the a**osphere in the local pub was cheerful.

We chose to stay at this motel as we were going on the Footprints Waipoua tour in the evening and Footsteps of Kupe the following morning, the location is ideal for both of these activities. The owner/manager of the motel was welcoming and our unit at the rear of the property was comfortable and quiet, we really liked the comfy armchairs.

Cute motel with incredible views of the harbour. Very clean and tidy. Room has everything you need for a comfortable stay. Friendly and helpful staff. Close to shop, information centre, great little cafe, and Manea Footprints of Kupe experience.

We got a friendly welcome and a really nice unit. There was no noise from other units and we slept well. We have a large car which made parking a little difficult but the unit next door was vacant so we were able to park out side out unit with minimal fuss.

We just drove in because we liked the look of the lighthouse out front and the manicured gardens. The female proprietor greeted us warmly and that gave us a great feeling immediately. Unfortunately the spa pool was not working but we didn't need it, it just would have capped off our day nicely however the sunset over the Hokianga Harbour compensated. Our unit was spotless, warm, cosy and surprisingly quiet for a full house. Our sheets were crisp and clean, extra pillows and blankets were in the cupboard, the kitchenette was well equipped, We really enjoyed our stay. We highly recommend Opononi Lighthouse Motel.
