I suggest that the 5 star reviews that come up at the top of the list must from some time ago (maybe 40 or 50 years). 2 of hem refer to breakfast, which is not being served due to COVID-19. I booked direct with the hotel and their own site was confusing regarding whether breakfast was included or not. When we arrived, John asked if we would like the bagged breakfast, but did not mention the charges; we said 'yes, please'. The online description of the room we selected included breakfast, and also lists 'Air Conditioning' and 'Climate control', meaning there are a window, a fan and a dehumidifier. It also refers to a tea and coffees maker; there is a kettle and some small sachets and UHT milk. As alluded to above, the hotel is extremely dated and old-fashioned, but to be fair it was clean. However, my biggest concern with them is that from booking, they had my card details. Without any contact from the hotel after I left, despite them obviously having my e-mail and mobile number, they charged me an extra £45 which I only discovered from checking my account. I called John to ask what the charge was for and got his answer-machine; he did not return my call. The next day I called again and got John on the phone - he was aggressive and rude, repeatedly saying I should have read the terms and conditions (which I accept), but the fact was that although the smallprint for the breakfast charge did state that it was extra, and should have been £33, he accepted no responsibility for his own website which stated that breakfast was included and would not accept that the price was outrageous for a small bag with cold contents. He ended up putting the phone down on me telling me I could 'f**k off' - charming host. For all of the poor customer service and unpleasant language after the stay, my biggest concern is that they have my card details stored and tried to 'steal' £12 from me. I do not know how this guest house earned AA 4* status (and have asked the AA that), but I strongly recommend that you stay somewhere else, if anywhere else in Penzance is available. If you do stay at the Dunedin, check your bank statement carefully after your stay to ensure you are aware of any hidden charges.
