We stayed here for the Tom Jones concert, and so did a number of other people. The communal kitchen was a good place to chat to others staying in the house. The building is a little off-putting from the outside, particularly as there are sometimes homeless people sitting nearby. The building is interesting and is part of the conservation area, but has been much altered and added to over the years, so the interior is a little rambling and odd. You collect the key from a small coded safe outside, and let yourself in, and then seek out your apartment, pressing various buttons to light up the stairs or corridors. Our apartment was clean, comfortable, spacious, with a recently fitted and good quality toilet and shower. View from our window was limited - mostly over the roof top of the building - but not unpleasant. Breakfast is included, and is help yourself. There are various cereals, bread with a toaster, milk, jams, etc. The kitchen has a TV and baby football table. There is only one small kitchen table, plus a coffee table, so it is really limited to one or two families. We moved around the furniture to suit ourselves when others were there, so were always OK. Some people opted to take their breakfast back to their room. We enjoyed playing on the (somewhat rickety) baby football table. While the apartment itself is decent enough, the rest of the building is a little odd and ragged, but we liked it. It was relaxed and laid back. There is short term parking on the street outside, which is long term at weekends. There is also a multi storey car park a short distance away which is not expensive (but has an awkward one way system when you exit!). The area is not rough (certainly not as rough as its reputation), but is not exactly a quiet suburban location. If you are comfortable being in a slightly run down urban area with homeless people hanging around, and if you're OK with a student style accommodation, then this place is fine. It's cheap and cheerful. The main plus points are: It's good value. It is a useful location (we were able to walk to everywhere from there). It is clean and comfortable. You get a free help yourself breakfast in a communal kitchen. We'd certainly use it again when visiting Plymouth. The main negative points: It's a little rough and ready - this is not the place for a romantic weekend. It's not attractive, it is functional. The street outside can feel a little unsafe.
