If Tripadvisor had a "Good" rating between Average and Very Good, I would pick it for this hotel. The location is good, near lots of shopping, restaurants, and an easy walk along the shore to most of the nice places in Opatija. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The room and its facilities, however, were a bit on the worn-out side. The Air Conditioning control in our room (301) was a complex mess. Not only did it have numerous sliders, switches, and dials, but the markings were largely worn off the plastic, so it was a guessing game to figure out what they were for. After struggling with it for a while, I called the desk and someone came to help me get it working. They set the switches and sliders and dials so that it should have come on, but it didn't. After working on it for a while, we discovered that rattling the door out to the balcony would make it work. Like many of these systems, it would shout off if the door was open. However, the old door didn't fit all that well in the old frame, so the switch was inconsistent. Second problem: The in-room safe had no instructions. It just had a number pad that looked like a telephone pad. No "lock" or "reset" buttons. I tried putting in a code then hitting "#" or "*", but the display just said "ERROR". I tried a lot of different things, but nothing worked. I called the desk, and someone came up to help. Turned out that they didn't know how the safe worked either. Some hours later, I decided to try a 6-digit code (followed by "#"), and it worked! No points to the hotel on making the safe a useful feature of the room, though. Bottom line: Adequate but dated room, good service, good location.
