The Kings Arms

Had a great weekend at the Kings Arms in Portesham Dorset. It situated ideally for visiting local interests. Room was very comfortable and clean throughout. Restaurant was very good with reasonable priced meals and good choice of real ales. Will definitely visit again

The room was cold, unaired and stank of mould, the heating was off and despite several requests stayed off. Black mould all over the bathroom. No response from the manager, but an offer of a room miles away and 25% refund The ceiling was washed, and then painted, black mould in the shower remained. Now the room stank of paint aswell as mould and window was left open, with heating off. Patchy wifi turned off when the staff left. A promised 25% refund was a. insufficient and b. not refunded

We had a lovely evening meal in this cosy pub. The food was delicious but what made the evening stand out was the warm welcome and enthusiasm of the landlord, absolutely nothing was too much trouble. Friendly local pubs like these are getting harder and harder to find so if you’re in the area please pop along and support them. You won’t be disappointed.

Called in into for lunch about 12.30 we both had ham egg chips it sounded lovely on the menu but when it came out you had a few chips two eggs and two small pieces of ham.don’t get me wrong it was nice but at £14.95 each it is well we’ll overpriced for what you got.one good thing the staff were very friendly

It’s a very friendly pub and a delight to visit. Food and bar staff were excellent. Very dog friendly. Located in the heart of the village with a large, well kept garden (with a stream). They have events from time to time and live music on occasion.

Called in for lunch today and two of our party are vegetarians. Took a look at the strange menu to find they only have a halloumi burger as the vegetarian option. The rest of the menu was quite expensive and they didn’t offer lunchtime sandwiches or jackets. So the two vegetarians had to have ham egg and chips without the ham ( but they did get an extra egg) but at £14.99 very overpriced. The two others had the same but with one smallish slice of ham. I regretfully ordered the fish and chips at £16.99 looked good on arrival but batter shattered soon as my fork touched it, to discover one very thin small grey piece of fish, certainly not cod or haddock I would assume coley. I know it didn’t say cod but at that price you would expect a decent bit of fish. Can’t fault the staff as they were very friendly but shall not be going again.

Went with two friends for Sunday lunch. I suggested we went to The Kings Arms as I had been a couple of years before and loved it. The food on that occasion had been excellent and they were so busy with lots of diners. Alas this time when we arrived there was only one table occupied which I though was very ominous. There was no waiting staff and we were given a piece of flimsy paper with a very limited menu printed on it and had to order at the bar. The food was awful two of us had the roast and I can't tell you how bad it was, potatoes, carrots and parsnips were soggy and a huge thick piece of pork just plonked on the top. My other friend had fish and chips and the chips were dry. I can't understand how this once lovely pub has been allowed to deteriorate to this standard. Lastly the whole place could do with a deep clean

My Birthday weekend staying up the road camping so booked for my birthday and booked for 4 of us the next day for a Sunday roast . We decided to try it out Friday night first thank god we did . Ordered the fish and chips mega expensive at £16.95 for a pub . It came out burnt and dry and the desert. I wanted to throw it back at them but I was with my wife and she hates the confrontation. We sat down no knifes and forks came with the dinner and waitress just walked off . We had to walk into the pub and they said obviously the station is over there help yourself no apologies. Honestly worst fish and chips ever terrible service and very expensive. Ultimately cancelled my birthday meal and the meal for 4 Sunday . Going to the Swan 3 miles away Fantastic place

Booked a table for Sunday lunch for 3. We all ordered roast beef. It was so tough I mentioned it to the waiter, he brought me a steak knife, but I couldn’t chew it. He changed the meals for roast pork no better. Both meals were dreadful. No apologies
