Bracken Hide Hotel

Really disappointed in what is supposed to be a 4 Star Wilderness Hotel. Much of the site looks unfinished with bare soil in many places, pots with dead plants in and rubbish thrown behind pods. On arrival we were informed that pets were not allowed even though your policy (copy below) clearly states they are and we were charged for 1 pet. You did say that on this occasion you would accommodate our pet but this left us feeling that it was our fault when actually it was yours. To top it off you also informed us that the restaurant was closed for the duration of our stay and we would have at least expected some form of prior notice so that at least we could have arranged an alternative. Overall very very disappointed and wouldn’t recommend staying certainly not at the current prices.

The overall atmosphere of this hotel and accommodations were great, but there were a few items we did not enjoy so much. The cabin feeling is so cozy, the beds were very comfortable, and the included breakfast and sauna were wonderful amenities! While we knew that our room was obviously not attached to the main building, the loose gravel on the paths made it a little challenging walking up the hill to our cabin from the main building. The main issue we had was with the very little time you had hot water in the shower. We timed it to about 8minutes and 15 seconds of hot water in the shower, then about 45minutes+ for the water to fully be hot again for a second person to shower. While we still enjoyed our overall stay and the other amenities, the lack of hot water was disappointing for the price you pay per night to stay here. We did also experience dinner service for an additional fee and enjoyed our meal and cocktails.

We were so looking forward to staying here and it didn't disappoint!. Quick check in, bags could taken to our accommodation but as it was so close we opted to carry them. Our room was spotless and en suite equally so. Great tea tray available with everything you could want and a good choice of nespresso pods. The toiletries were local and so fragrant. Bed super comfy - we weren't even half way home when we had ordered the same pillows! The main building was unbelievable with a super sumptuous bar thst we didn't want to leave. Cocktails are amazing. Breakfast certainly didn't disappoint. It was piping hot and served quickly to our order. We didn't eat in the evening which gives us even more reason to return. It's sad to read the negative reviews on here as in my opinion they are not justified. Can't wait to return and see the progress they make with the landscaping and additional pods being sited.

Absolutely loved my stay at the resort on the Isle of Skye! The panoramic views from the rooms were breathtaking, and the evening atmosphere was simply magical. The restaurant served delicious meals for dinner, adding to the overall excellent experience. Would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a memorable getaway!

The negative reviews did their best to put us off this place but honestly we couldn't be happier that we continued to book! We stayed for a few nights after our wedding last autumn and it was the loveliest time. Our friend's had done the same a month earlier and they had assured us that it is well worth it so that definitely persuaded us to ignore the reviews. It seems that there were obviously some teething issues when they first opened, and I think people were staying with the wrong expectations so no wonder they were disappointed. The place is what it says it is. Pods and a central building so of course you are going to have to walk outside to get to your room - but it makes the experience more unique! You get the feel of staying in a remote little cabin, but with the luxury of a beautiful bar and restaurant on your doorstep. The cabins are much more luxurious than your typical cabin and yes there are small design features that need to be re-thought (shower door not fitting the room) but it doesn't ruin the overall experience. The staff were incredible every morning and night. The food was delicious and great value for money. Breakfast was superb. The bar is well stocked and perfect to lounge in. I have recommended this place so many times over already and can't wait to return. Price wise - I prefer to visit Skye in the off season months anyway so the value during this time is perfect. In the peak season months the prices are high but they reflect any other place on the island - it just is what it is.

We had a wonderful experience at Bracken Hide. The pods were so beautiful and unique and fit in wonderfully with the landscape of Skye. We thought the walk from the pods to the common areas were really nice even in the cold, and we were with seniors and children in some of the farther pods. We were only able to stay for two nights but we would have loved to stay for more. It was very cold when we were there and the heated floors were so luxurious. Comfortable beds/linens and towels were all super soft and large. We did not find the bathrooms too small for the pods but it's true that a few extra shelves would have been helpful. The included breakfast was amazing. Maybe this has been changed since some of the first reviews but we got a hot made-to-order breakfast that was delicious, and also yogurts, small bakery items, etc. that we could help ourselves to. Coffee from a press at the table was a nice touch. We had drinks at the beautiful bar both nights. Drinks were delicious. Bartenders were super friendly. Our party of 12 also had dinner at the restaurant and the food and service was great. There was a huge lounge and game area above the restaurant where our kids played games and watched tv after dinner while the adults enjoyed more time with coffee and desserts. The entire hotel staff were so helpful and friendly. We thought we had a problem in our room and someone came out right away to assist. Our only disappointment was that the sauna was not working during our stay. Isle of Skye is a magical place and I can't imagine a more fitting hotel to stay at. Whatever hiccups Bracken Hide had when they first opened seems amended to me.

I recently stayed at Bracken Hide and overall had a positive experience. The food was excellent, and the room had a cozy atmosphere that added to the overall charm of the place. The staff was incredibly friendly and accommodating. However, there were a couple of drawbacks. Upon arrival, the heating in the room was not turned on, making it quite cold. It took a while for the room to warm up, affecting the initial comfort of my stay. Additionally, some amenities were not available during my visit, which was a bit disappointing. Despite these issues, the warmth of the staff and the delightful food made my stay memorable. With a bit of attention to the heating and ensuring all amenities are consistently available, Bracken Hide could truly be a top-notch destination.

We almost didn't stay here BECAUSE of the bad reviews and I am SO GLAD that we decided to see for ourselves because our experience at The Bracken Hide was certainly the most memorable part of our trip to Scotland!!! The bad reviews are so petty and minuscule in comparison to the gem that the Bracken Hide is. I think people are coming here and expecting the luxury of a Four Seasons and that just isn't happening anywhere in the wild Isle of Skye! It was a beautiful experience in the very small town of Portree. Considering that you are in a pod in the middle of Scotland and NOT at the Four Seasons; the pods DID feel luxurious. If you go in realizing this; than you won't be disappointed. The bathroom was a tad small (and the hot water didn't last very long) but it wasn't a problem at all after we figured that out. The room itself was very comfy and warm with the heated floors and there was also a fan which was very nice. Each side of the bed had it's own little closet and beside stand. For us the size of the pod was no issue at all. There is a small TV that we didn't even use, as well as a espresso machine...although we didn't have any pods, we could've called down for them, but it was a non issue as they have coffee in the restaurant. A lot of complaints about the walk to the pods from the parking lot, but we didn't mind it....it was actually quite nice with the beautiful view and at night the path was lit with low lights. I wouldn't want it bright nor would I want the parking lot close with the sounds of cars...it's SCOTLAND people!!!! If you are handicapped, there is closer parking available. Our experience with the the staff was nothing but FIVE STAR from check in to check out. There weren't any towels or robes available at the sauna, but the staff was more than accommodating and apologetic and brought them right to us as soon as they were dry. The sauna and the cold plunge were seriously fab if that's your sort of thing. We LOVED it and it made our stay there memorable. It was 40 degrees and raining outside and we still dipped in the cold plunge and then ran to the sauna. HOW FUN! Thank you to the Bracken Hide for making our first trip to Scotland a memorable one!

Bracken Hide is all marketing and no substance. The setting is lovely and the design of the “hub” building is very impressive, but that’s where the positives end unfortunately. They are offering very poor value for money and it is no wonder many are unimpressed. The interactions we had with staff left a lot to be desired. Our “check in” consisted of being handed keys and told in no uncertain terms that the restaurant was a separate undertaking so all communication with them must be direct. The restaurant ended up being the only thing we actually liked about the place! The rooms are well decorated but not particularly practical; we arrived and they had the heating on at full blast, presumably to manage damp. It was uncomfortably warm in November. The bed was comfy but as others have noted, the toiletries were basic at best and the bathroom was caravan-esque. It was also disappointing to sit in an oversubscribed sauna adjacent to another which is being used as a shed. The loud and smelly diesel golf carts buzzing about to manage the impracticalities of building a “hotel” on a hill also ruined the atmosphere.
