The Bay Horse Country Inn

We stayed here over the Easter weekend as we were guests at a nearby wedding. We were made to feel very welcome. We made use of the bar, which served good beer. The evening meal was also very good. The room we had was typical of an old country, Inn, and very adequate and cosy. The breakfast was excellent. Would highly recommend and would definitely stay again

Always a welcome on our return to this gem in the countryside. Chris & Bev run a traditional inn that fills all the needs for the mature traveller. Old fashioned courtesies & respect for guests is always in evidence. Locals make us feel welcome & it is like returning to a former comfortable home. It is old like me but full of charm & has a food menu that has something for everyone. Well kept beers & ample car parking. Thank you once again - see you both later in the year.

Had a weekend trip, we stayed here a couple of years ago & we are pleased to say it is still a great pub to stay at. The landlord was fantastic as was the food & drink. The rooms were clean & well equipped for a weekend break. The Bay Horse is well located for the A1, Thirsk & Ripon. Well worth a visit.

We spent a weekend here with friends, we were warmly greeted by Chris and shown to our rooms which were well equipped, clean and warm. We spent two evenings in the friendly bar and thoroughly enjoyed the food served for evening meal. Our breakfasts were also excellent. We cannot praise Chris and his staff enough.

A little bit out the way (in the sticks) but very pleasantly surprised. Rooms are a good size, staff is so friendly and owners were fabulous. Would highly recommend staying here ... you can either drive into thirsk or ripon or coats £15 in taxis ... overall very good and really happy with our stay xx

We had a lovely warm welcome from the second we entered the Inn and when we came down from our room for a drink and an evening meal we were so well looked after despite there being a large group at the pub who were also eating. The steak pie and lamb and mint pie were INCREDIBLE! And my husband said the John Smiths was a ‘beautiful pint’. Our room was very comfortable… old fashioned, in a good way, but with the luxury of a large tv. In true old fashioned inn style, the carpets throughout the Inn are very busy, and there are quite a few small flights of steps throughout and so some steps can be hard to see… something to bear in mind for anyone not too steady on their feet. This morning we had the same warm welcome when we went down for breakfast. Lovely hot tasty breakfast and large pot of tea. We felt at home from the minute we arrived at the Bay Horse and will be returning.

We were looking for a relaxing place to stay while visiting my mother in a care home and we really hit the jackpot with The Bay Horse. A wonderful country pub with the warmest of welcome, wonderful food and a relaxing a**osphere. We will be returning.

This was our fourth stay at this quaint pub located in a small village on the outskirts of Thirsk. Very handy for access to the A1. As usual a warm welcome awaited our arrival & hosts Chris & Bev could not be more accommodating. All creature comforts along with a good pint of well kept beer. The evening meals are homemade & delicious. The rooms are clean & old fashioned. A time warp & we enjoy that a**osphere. The locals remember us & we spend time having a drink in the well stocked bar. Don’t look for chrome & mirrors you will not find them - just enjoy the old way of life & savour the memories. Thank you once again. Will be back.

We stayed one night here and also had dinner with breakfast the following morning. The landlord and his staff were excellent, the room was clean and had everything we needed. The food was excellent - we had steak pie and the lamb and mint pie - and the breakfast was very good too. All in all, a lovely stay and we'll certainly be back next time we are in the area.
