Ardencaple Hotel by Greene King Inns

The property is extremely tired at best (e.g. fabric on bench seats worn through and dirty foam poking out). On our arrival early evening, we booked a table for dinner. We unpacked and then went to the table we had been shown but unfortunately, other people were sitting at it and the staff just didn't move them. We had to find another table. So much for making a reservation. Next, we had a room overlooking the loch, which should have been lovely but the sash window wouldn't stay open, so we had to put a shoe in the gap to keep it open, otherwise it was very hot and airless. Unfortunately, as soon as the window was opened the sound of very unpleasant and loud music that was playing right outside the room drowned out any feeling of relaxation or peace. Things worsened significantly with the toilet, as it had a macerator that made an extremely loud noise every time it was flushed - not just in our room but all over the hotel. I barely slept all nigh with other guests flushing their toilets or banging fire doors that did not have any dampers on them. The shower was absolutely dreadful: just a trickle at best and the thermostat didn't work, so it was 'guess the temperature' on the dial - turning the dial made no real difference and it was either extremely cold or boiling hot. On to breakfast, which was just appalling. No non-dairy alternatives were available, which is totally unacceptable in this day and age. I had to buy my own non-dairy milk for day two. The breakfast service was equally dreadful, e.g. no breakfast bowls or plates, so we had to find the elusive staff to ask. Orange juice ran out and was not topped up. They couldn't even offer boiling water for tea - just a flask of hot water. All in all, this has to be the most overpriced and disappointing 'hotel' I have ever stayed in. Definitely do NOT recommend and will NEVER go there again.

We popped in today whilst on holiday to Loch Lomond. We received fabulous service from Dylan. Dylan was so attentive and welcoming as soon as we arrived and gave us 5 star service. The food was superb and the Victoria Cheesecake was to die for. Will definitely be back! Thanks for everything Dylan so appreciated and our 4 month old grand daughters first meal out!

An odd experience. Starters turned up within 5 minutes but we never got the mains. We asked the waitress a couple of times, once after 45 mins and then again after 60 mins, both times we were told, sorry I'll get them now. We eventually had to walk out as we were hungry. Nice enough place and staff were ok. We may return for drinks but won't trouble them for food again.

I never write reviews but after seeing reviews for here I travelled quite a bit, over an hour for 'real pub food' and I honestly could not believe why this place gets these reviews. We are not fussy people at all and pretty much eat anything but I really didn't hunk it was a joke when our food arrived tonight. First the staff where very friendly and place was quite nice but that's as much as I can compliment this place. We ordered the chicken strips and I burst out laughing when I seen them. They where the thinnest wee strips you have ever seen. The cheap ones from a well known freezer shop. The Kids meals where so poor, smash from a packet, cheap chicken nuggets and the small frozen pizza. The Balmoral burger was OK but really small and the chicken burger was a cremated frozen burger. It was the worst pub food I have ever had and we eat out at least a few times a week. We waited an hour n 20 minutes for our food so was thinking it was home made food but was so poor. I'm sure it would be a nice place for a few drinks but never should this place serve food like this. Such a shame as a nice place with nice staff. I have never ever in my lifetime not left a tip and tonight I felt quite embarrassed for not but I couldn't from this meal.

Celebrated family visiting for a special occasion, so it was a large group of us. They gave us the function room and asked us to pre order meals a few days before. All went smoothly, excellent service, good food, reasonable prices. Would definitely recommend.

Went along to the Rhu Inn tonight with friends where we had a fabulous tapas themed dinner. The food was amazing (all 7 courses) authentic home made tapas dishes full of flavour, served along with a lovely glass of sangria. Great place and lovely friendly staff, we will be popping back soon.

Nice food great staff unbelievably friendly service was phenomenal food came out hot unbelievable bang for your buck if your around rhu or Helensburgh area it’s definitely worth a shot they have a great pool table and you can challenge there pool master Leo if you ask for him at the bar

I Have been using the Ardencaple for a number of years! I have always found the atmosphere to be really good, the staff helpful and friendly and the food always very good! On top of this it is very reasonably priced, would definitely recommend.

We stayed here for 1 night between Xmas and New Year. Initially it all seemed quite nice and homely. The rooms looked like they were newly refurbished and were clean. We stayed during a storm and the wind was blowing up the drainage pipes causing a noise in the shower plug hole, along with a drain smell. The staff were quick to re locate us to a bigger room with a massive bed. We slept well, however, in the morning, the shower in the room didn't work. Water just dribbled out. We left for home unshowered. We informed a member of staff on check out and we were told someone would be intouch regarding a possible discount.....Still waiting. The pub area was quiet so we didn't have to wait long for food. It was nothing special, just the usual chain pub food. The place was clearly run down. Leaking roofs, out of use and dirty bar area toilets. Cooked breakfast in the morning was nice but the buffet Items like bread for toast wasn't the freshest. We won't stay here again.
