Discovery Parks - Hobart

Discovery Park got all the basics. It is clean with all necessary appliances. Only downside was the unstable wifi. Perfect for self-driving road trip. Not recommend those relying on public transport.

We were severely disappointed when we arrived to this park. There were 4 sites squashed together and it would have easily been the smallest site we have ever stayed on. Barely enough room to set up the awning and you are looking into your neighbours window the whole time. The astro matting on our site was filthy and smelt mouldy, the highway is literally metres away and you’re camping next door to a prison. Amenities were an unusual set up and overall it was just a horrible location and feel. Very run down facilities, random cars parked throughout the park and just very noisy from the highway. We ended up leaving early and not seeing out our booking as we were incredibly dissatisfied. It may be great for an overnight stop but it was not worth the significant price we paid. It is sad to admit that we think this would have to be the worst caravan park in Tasmania. It pays to do some proper research and the website is very misleading to what you are actually presented with. One positive is that the staff were friendly and welcoming.

My overall rating is listed as average since the accommodation is located across the highway from a female prison. Despite this, we did feel safe during our stay and access to the park is via a boom gate. Our cabin was very well equipped, with amazing hot water, a washing machine and the best hot chocolate around! Convenient vehicle parking, right next to our accommodation. The office hours are limited however there is a key drop off box if needed. Shops are a short drive away if you need to buy groceries during your stay.

We booked this park before we came to Tasmania and needed an extra night. I rang a couple of days before we arrived and they accommodated us without any trouble at all. The park is reasonably close to the middle of Hobart and a very easy drive to and from the city. We had a family unit overlooking the highway but it felt like we were miles away. The unit was well set out and comfortable. There is also hotel nearby which was handy for a pre-dinner drink. They also serve meals.

The staff were very friendly and helpful. The cabin was cosy, well presented and comfortable. It was also very clean which we loved. The park itself has great facilities. great BBQ area and a jumping pillow and mini golf for the kids. Great experience, loved it.

Do not expect any privacy. Do not put up a "please do not disturb" sign The cleaners get offended, ( knock on the door 3 or 4 times a day to say things like " what are you doing? What are you watching? and don't do their jobs . Shame the housekeeping staff let the place down

We booked via phone last minute and communication and check in was an easy process. Amenities were disgusting , so dirty, floors a disgrace , other peoples hair everywhere and no bucket/ mop available or spray/wipe available to adhere to the Covid policy which they asked us to follow. Bbq and facilities had construction tape all around it, the area was overgrown, and completely run down. Worst camp we have stayed at across Tasmania .

What a lovely little park, whilst down in Hobart for a family function we needed pet/family friendly accommodation. The cabin had everything we needed to cook breakfast and the cabins were clean and comfortable with everything we needed. Staff were friendly and helpful when checking in and when our toaster died 😕. Our kids loved the play areas with the bouncing pillow the biggest hit! Thanks for a lovely stay we will be back!

Have stayed at many Discovery Parks. Mixed results. Sadly when you book a cabin and request dog friendly it seems the norm to be given an old smelly tatty cabin. Not all people travelling with dogs are grotty and happy to pay to have a premium cabin. Here the premium cabins look great. My cabin, no 20 was old, smelt musty, wasn't particularly clean. I requested moving but told park booked out and only a Couple of cabins for dogs. So was offered a request for refund of 2nd night. I took this but would have rather stayed 2 days as planned. Sadly I did not want to come back to this cabin a second night. I ended up buying air freshener and a throw to cover the lounge for the one night. Some individually owned parks offer great dog friendly cabins. Come on Discovery up your game.
