The Fig Tree Shanklin

Nice size room, clean but the bed is way to small for two people.. Im not tall and my feed hung out of the bed half the night. Parking is super and location too. Waited almost an hour for the breakfast the next day as well as another 30mins to check out due to understaffing for the needed customers.

Enjoyed our stay first time in IOW although the hotel seem short staffed .The staff were friendly and we enjoyed the open mic night Our room had a problem however with the walk in shower which flooded when the shower was used. The floor had to be swept out every morning .I was advised this was only room (2) which had this problem so maybe worth providing a barrier of some kind to stop the water spreading over the floor

I've had to think about this review as it's not straightforward! It is a modern hotel with good sized rooms, comfortable beds, tasteful furnishings and wetrooms. Breakfast offers a decent selection of food and cooked items were great apart from the day that the chef wasn't in and we also had to wait 40 minutes. The staff work really hard but are clearly stretched. So to the tricky part of the review. As the hotel is run on a skeleton staff usually only one member of staff is there and that person is running around like the proverbial fly. At breakfast they must cover miles. Reception is unmanned if they are doing something else (waiting tables, serving drinks, servicing rooms). The rooms are not fully serviced on a daily basis and room trays are not always restocked (although when the lovely housekeeper services your room it is done properly). One of our rooms had a problem with the toilet which had to be fixed every day we were there. The tv in the other room didn't work properly and when showering the whole bathroom floor was covered in water. There were also multiple holes in walls which wouldn't have taken much maintenance to rectify. So, if you don't mind some niggles and watching staff charging around every day the position of the hotel is very good (Shanklin town centre and many restaurants close by) and it is clean and modern. It suited us well hence the 4 stars but it could be so much better.
