Roseway River Cottages

When we booked our cabin we questioned what we need to bring with us, he said he supplied everything and if we needed anything he would get it, well we were totally pleased with our cabin! It was everything we needed, Thanks soooo much, Bonnie & Wayne

Quiet, comfortable and relaxing. Our trip here was about recharging and doing absolutely nothing but relaxing. We stayed in cottage one and it was perfect. The beds were amazingly comfortable, blackout curtains that actually blacked out your room so you can get the z’s you need to rejuvenate from busy life. How the cottages are situated it feels like you are there all by yourself once you are settled in and you have everything you could possibly need. The linens are beautiful and fresh - towels are plush like a 5 star hotel. Only minutes from town to grab what you need and 1/2 hour from a beautiful beach. I can’t say enough about this gem by the river. Just book your dates now and stop debating if you should or not.

Unfortunately, zero was not permitted as a rating! There are many words we could use to describe our experience with our accommodations and the owner himself, with none of those words being pleasant. The utter shock that we felt upon finally getting through the door was unbelievable! I can safely say that had we not driven for nearly 2 ½ hours (and being so far from home) we would have demanded our money back and left. I will be sharing some photos but seeing it in person tells a much better story. The photos and description online was obviously outdated because had we seen what our cottage was actually like we would never have booked it. The kitchen was so small with little or no counter space. The plastic drain board for the dishes hung off the counter so a cloth had to be used underneath so as not to get water all over the counter. And speaking of drain tray it was disgusting – stained, dirty, etc. The freezer had empty ice cube trays and ice cubes were loose in the freezer. The TV remote was nowhere to be found. One of the ceiling lights in the kitchen had a bulb blown out and one of the holes for the ceiling light in the living room was missing a bulb completely. The piece of carpet or rug in the living room had large white stains. The bathroom looked they had started to do a renovation but didn’t finish it. The toilet was for a child as it was so small and possibly was 12 inches high! Every room had blinds that were broken, some worse than others. There was a jar on the table and when we took the cover off it was a candle with burnt out matches, clumps of half burned wicks – it was gross and disgusting. The outside was the best of this accommodation. When we called Daniel, the owner shortly after we arrived he came to see us and seemed flustered blaming the cleaning staff for the inadequacies. We asked if this was his only property to which he said he had several others. I guess that would explain why this was in such dire need of repairs, even a coat of paint would have helped. We also said we had difficulty opening the door and in a snide manner he stated “you have to turn the handle to the left”. How ridiculous! Any door should be able to be opened by turning the knob either way. My husband asked if we were permitted to have a fire to which he said “yes, from 8:00 pm to 7:00 am. We tried that first night but there were so many black flies that we cut it short. While we felt we were off to a very unwelcoming, rough start with very poor accommodations, we wanted to try and make the best of it. Our friends were in the next cabin (#2) which also was very dilapidated as well. We decided to go out and purchase some supplies so we would be able to enjoy the fire that evening. We had to wait as Daniel was going to their cottage to replace a broken toilet seat. After much grumbling about how busy he was he finally came back, replaced the toilet seat and we went out. We purchased bug spray, bug repellent candles and afterbite

We had friends visiting the Shelburne area from Mexico and friends living down the road near Mahone Bay that we don't get to see often, so a trip to Shelburne seemed to be just the thing. And our stay in Cabin 4 at Roseway River Cottages was just the place to be! Very clean, very tidy, and we REALLY appreciated the a/c and dehumidifier functions on the heat pump in mid-July. We also appreciated that the cottages are pet-friendly; it was our rescue dog's first road trip and she had a blast! We enjoyed wandering the paths around the property and there are MANY places nearby to walk and hike. Our favourite was Welkum Park, up the road a bit, with a sandy beach, bathrooms & change rooms, and picnic pavilions. A real gem!

Very accommodating from the beginning of checking in. Making sure we had everything we needed before they left. Scenery is beautiful and accommodations are more then expected. AC is provided with heat pump instead of window unit, picnic tables and hammocks with a fire pit. These cottages are great for families or friends. I would highly recommend!!
