We stayed at the Aeolos Hotel for a week just after Storm Daniel, and luckily the island didn't appear to have suffered in the same devastating way as Skiathos. We'd booked a sea view room, which was pleasant and had a lovely balcony/sitting out area overlooking the lawn towards the sea. However, the room was desperately "tired" and I was so disappointed not to find a kettle so that I could make a cup of tea or coffee. I don't think I can remember staying anywhere, regardless of the star rating, where a kettle hasn't been available. The bed was comfortable, but we did have to ask for extra pillows as the one pillow on the bed was too flat to sleep on. The lawn below our room had a pond with fountain, so it would have been nice if it had been filled with water and in operation. Perhaps it was because we were coming to the end of the season? Breakfast was served in a pleasant room which in the centre should have had a pond. However, this was completely empty during our stay and contained nothing other than an empty bucket which didn't look very attractive. The food at breakfast was adequate, but some of the items were over-cooked and, apart from the one day when fried eggs were available, the eggs (omelettes and scramble) were unappealing. Another mystery was the lack of a toaster. All that was on offer was a sandwich maker, that by the time you had placed a slice of bread inside, had flattened it so much it was inedible and impossible to cut. I must say that the staff who served breakfast were lovely and friendly, it was just a pity that the food offerings were below standard. This whole review sounds like a huge moan and I really don't mean to dissuade guests from staying here, it's just that there were so many little ******* that had to be noted. I must add that Skopelos is a wonderful island and we thoroughly enjoyed our week here.
