Residence Terra Rossa Taormina

This place is magical; the garden is like paradise. The view from our balcony and from the pool area was just breathtaking. The staff were nice. Location was good with a short walk to the town centre and an equally short walk to the Isola Bella beach. A special thank you to the staff for keeping the swimming pool open during November. I enjoyed swimming every day for 2 weeks. I’m so happy we chose this hotel for our stay in Taormina. If we return to Taormina, we’ll choose this place again.

First of all the positives: It is a very attractive residence, with good views. The room was spacious and clean. The staff are very friendly and helpful. There is a good buffet breakfast at 10euros, where you can eat as much as you want. No hot food, but a good continental selection. Negatives: The pool side only has (uncomfortable) metal deck chairs. No loungers at all, so not possible to lie out in the sun comfortably, and certainly not on your tummy. The bed was also extremely uncomfortable and the pillows like rocks. It's two single mattresses on a double bed with nothing to hold them together, so they are constantly slipping apart and you fall down the crack in the middle. I didn't sleep at all well throughout the whole week. The air con isn't brilliant either - not very powerful. As other reviews have mentioned, it's not really set up for self catering, so I only used the fridge and kettle. It's the first "self catering" place I've visited where there wasn't a welcome pack on the room, even if it was just some water, bread, cheese. Nothing. Also, these places usually have some "standards" left by previous people, such as salt, pepper, oil, vinegar, washing powder etc, but there is nothing. Yes - it's location is halfway down the hill so there are a lot of steep steps in either direction, which I didn't mind, but if you don't like going up a long flight of steep steps, you can walk DOWN to the funicular, visit the town and then walk DOWN the steps back to the residence, so there are ways around avoiding an uphill struggle. There are no restaurants in the immediate vicinity, however I had a very late lunch while I was out and about and then just made a sandwich or snack in the evening, so again, there are ways to work around this.

Lovely place, very quiet and out of the way. The gardens of the hotel are beautiful and the views from the grounds are wonderful. We did not have breakfast so cannot comment on that. We had a late check in; arriving at about 9pm (for which a small fee is payable) and early check out, the staff arranged for a taxi to collect us for our onward journey. All in all we were left to our own devices, the staff are unobtrusive but when needed were very helpful.

Absolutely amazing location! You can find a good deal to spend your nights in Taormina if you are a couple. Our room was small but comfortable .Beautiful Pool with an amazing view on the Mediterranean and stays sunny till late in the afternoon. The breakfast view is dream like but unfortunately you can’t say the same for the 10€ breakfast of Terra Rossa. Some low quality products, not local neither and you need to keep in mind that the coffee, very good espresso and cappuccino, is going to cost you extra! We enjoyed being closed to both the beach of Isolabella and the town of Taormina. The staff was welcoming and helpful. We definitely recommend you to book a room if you are looking for a Sicilian escape!

This is an oasis in the beautiful town of Taormina. The staff are friendly, kind, and helpful especially Giovanni who treated us like old friends and made a real effort to help us. The staff were lovely especially to my daughter. The view is breathtaking, the breakfast excellent and tasty, and the pool a good size. Yes there are stairs to climb either way but you can go down the (236) steps and you are at Isobella beach and if you want to go into town you can get the funicular. The whole property, pool and gardens are meticulously maintained and the a**osphere is peaceful and you feel immersed in the gorgeous garden. For us having the apar**ent with a kitchenette meant we could relax “at home” in the evenings when we didn’t feel like the bustled of the town. Thank you for having us- we had the best time.

Our time at Residence Terra Rossa was just lovely. It is such a pretty setting with beautiful communal gardens, a large terrace area for sun-bathing with a pool and views of Isola Bella, the beaches below and the stunning coastline. We (a family of 4 adults) were very fortunate as the day we arrived they'd had a cancellation so when we checked in we were upgraded from two small one bedroom apar**ents to an apar**ent with two ensuite double bedrooms, a kitchen diner/lounge, a private terrace with jacuzzi, a dining table with sun canopy and great views along the coast. It was great! Thank you Terra Rossa! The staff (it's a family run business) were very helpful and always met our requests with a smile. They ordered taxis for us, booked us a day trip to Etna and also ordered pizzas to be delivered to us. The location is good in that it is half way between the beaches below and Taormina town above but either way it is a climb up or down and in the baking summer sun it is hard going. The cable car is just at the foot of the hillside that Terra Rossa sits on so it's conveniently placed to take it up to the main town but the walk down to get there is steep (but is only a 5 minute walk). The only thing that was lacking was a poolside bar/cafe where guests could buy cold drinks, refreshments and snacks when using the pool and sunbathing on the terrace. There is what looks like a small kiosk bar with a shutter but it is permanently closed which is a shame as there isn't anywhere else within an easy walk that sells groceries. The nearest supermarket is in the main town so a 10 min taxi ride away or there's a couple of pricey mini markets on the main road below but the climb back up when laden with groceries is not fun. These are small negatives and shouldn't put anyone off visiting Residence Terra Rossa as it is such a pretty place and the accommodation is very comfortable and the views are wonderful. We all loved it and would definitely like to return one day.

The hotel is located halfway between the historic center of Taormina and the beaches of Mazzarò and Isola Bella. It consists of small white houses surrounded by a beautiful garden, a nice little pool and has a magnificent view of the sea and Isola Bella right beneath. The location was perfect! It was an easy walk both back and forth to the beach and between the hotel and the center of Taormina - if you don’t mind going in steps. Nice view when walking, good exercise and no problem at all for most people. We had a small apar**ent at the ground floor (#22) with a garden view. It was spacious for two people and included a small kitchen with cooking possibilities and a refrigerator. The apar**ent was nice and clean - yes, for us it was perfect! The breakfast was just ok, and costed 10€ each. We tried it a couple of times, but preferred buying some fresh bread, eggs, bacon/ham etc at a grocery store and make our own breakfast in the room - much better and cheaper. The hotel staff is nice and helpful, although they didn’t manage to fix the heating system in our apar**ent - it was colder than usual for this time of the year (and raining a couple of days). Note that the towels are changed only once during the stay, unless you want to pay 3€ extra for each extra change - and daily cleaning is not included. No problem as long as you do not expect something else. :) There is a free parking lot close to the hotel which is spacious and seems very safe - we had no worries leaving our rental car there. We loved this hotel and will highly recommend it to other visitors of Taormina. It must be one of the best spots for visiting Taormina and the the beaches of Mazzarò - and again; it includes a magnificent view and a very beautiful garden. Just go for it!
