Clafouti Beach Resort - A Seafacing Resort

I visited the Clafouti Beach Resort with my family in Nov 2023. We had booked a DELUXE VILLA ROOM. It was clean, well maintained and sufficient for our family. We got a clear view of the sea from the top of north cliff just outside our hotel (no sea view from room). The location is very beautiful and the staff was courteous. Special mention about the restaurant, we were very well taken care of and the food was amazing & very delicious. In spite of so many options nearby we ended up eating in our resort restaurant most of the time. All the major hotspots are close by. This is located in north cliff and black sand beach and the temple are walkable from this resort. Since its on hilltop, access to the beach was quite tough. We had to walk down steep stairs to get to the beach. Complimentary breakfast could have been provided. Food was reasonably priced. I would definitely visit again.

We booked Royal Villa Deluxe for 2 nights and 3 days, the room was pretty and decent but the staff and service was very bad, at first when we reach there the staff was unaware about the booking and took us to very cheap room as compared to what we booked. The receptionist doesn’t speak hindi or english so it was very frustrating. You have to pay for every second water bottle. staff is not at all friendly or polite. You can only book the room for the view. It is very close to the beach. The view from the room is also very pretty.

Centrally located on the North Cliff, staying at Clafouti will keep you at the heart of the buzz in Varkala. We were in the cottages which look beautiful from the outside, but were in definite need of TLC inside. Bad decor and tacky lighting made the room completely tasteless... a lost opportunity. Cleanliness and service quality were average. The staff at the reception were very helpful though. Do not opt for meals, as there are several fabulous cafes and restaurants around you.

We really enjoyed our 3 night stay here. Staff were friendly and professional. Location is excellent. Rooms are spacious, clean and comfortable. It’s reasonable VFM. The restaurant does not look much from the outside, however the food is consistently excellent. Numerous travellers recommended it and once we tried it, we used it regularly. Fresh fish suppers, great breakfasts (particularly good Shakshuka). My criticism is that our rooms did not have WiFi - so we had to sit outside/go to restaurant to get online. There is a very good Yoga instructor next door, ***** with a decent ice cream shop! The walk to the beach is short, and there are loads of shops and restaurants nearby.

It's a been a nice experience. We opted for small rooms as per availability but they do provide villa type rooms which are pretty good. Family type resort. They had a magnificent cliff view by the beach multiple cafes around the corner. One can have a cool nytt lyff . U can capture beautiful pics and views . Must try their massage spa . Facial massage was very good . Must try the restaurant inside the resort , they serve tasty continental food. Must try Thai red curry and rice and also fried rice

The hotel is good in general. There is no tea/coffee maker inside the room. The hotel restaurant only opens at 8 am. So if you want tea/coffee earlier than that there are no options. There is less coordination between hotel staff. You have to repeat the same question/request multiple times before you get an answer. The sea was visible from our balcony. The hotel was close to the beach. Overall the stay is not bad

The service was horrible. No one was picking up the call to take my order. The lock is not working for the bathroom. We found bugs in the food. The resort looks very old. When I called to complain about the service, the person hung up on me. Waste of money

We had enquired directly with the Akhil hotels group reservations and booked a Garden view room with breakfast (continental plan) in clafouti beach resort for ₹3400. We had made clear that our purpose of the booking is to solely enjoy the beach as the property did not even have a swimming pool. When we reached the resort (if you can call it that) we were given this shabby room with the walls all wet and furniture rotten. We were asked to pay the whole amount in advance before checking in(Seems a weird policy as we had paid more than half the amount in advance). The room was not even worth paying ₹1000. Still we endured it to go to the beach in the evening and since the beach was 15 minutes walk away from the place, we went via road. The life guards at the beach said that the beach was closed about a month back due to monsoon and rough sea. This was not at all informed to us at the time of booking. When we enquired about this with the resort reception, they told me they were not aware about this. We were about to leave as we didn't want to stay in the shabby old room as we can't even visit the beach. Then they told they had a strict non refund policy even if we did not have breakfast, they wouldn't agree to refund even the breakfast amount. Posting pics of the room for reference. May be the sea view rooms might be having good views but be wary about the cunning and deceptive behaviour of the reservations and the reception staff.

The stay was wonderful with amazing views. The food is delicious with sea view. Good for family. A must try. The greenery was a pleasent site. My kids enjoyed a lot. We will come back for our next vacation.
