I really wanted this to be a good review, and bits of it are. Reeth is wonderful, a real gem in the Dales. The staff are good, a special mention for the friendly and attentive Courtney. The food, dinner and breakfast was good. I last went there decades ago, had fond memories and looked forward to returning. Our room, Thwait, was nice. The bathroom over the corridor that others have mentioned we thought was fine. Fortunately our room was one that hasn’t received the new decor. Maybe a bit tired but it’s suited to the building. We weren’t a fan of the new look. What struck us was that the new owners don’t seem to have taken the actual building or surroundings into account with their development of the Burgoyne. The decor was one example; part covering a memorial plaque to the deaths of some Canadian airforce personnel on the from railings at the front was another. The Burgoyne has a special place in the local history. Please do consider the heritage in the remaining developments. Oh, and we had to pile out at 05.15 when the fire alarm went off. No one’s fault and no staff on site, but it didn’t make the stay feel better. Reeth yes, Burgoyne for now, no.
