Hotel Zur Post

A charming hotel, about twenty minutes drive from Trier centre. A tiny room, but adequate, clean, helpful proprietor. Nice breakfast. However, don't arrive before 3:00 pm in the afternoon. Free parking by the side of the road opposite.

After spending a few days in Bruges, our next stop was Trier. We had booked two nights in Hotel Zur Post. This hotel was located on the outskirts of Trier and is a short distance away from the World Heritage Sites the town is renowned for. This is a modern establishment, in fact our rooms were in a part of the hotel that had just been redone. Our room and all its amenities were very topnotch and the bathroom was very updated. The checkin went well as the staff were efficient and courteous. There is free parking available, on a not so busy road, just across from the hotel. Our room faced the road but there was no problem with noise at night. There is a restaurant on the premises, where we were served breakfast in the morning, and which was very excellent. We also ate our dinner here for our two nights stay. The meals were reasonably priced and very tasty, and a good variety was offered on the menu. A nice spot to end up after a busy day of "adventure". We, "adventurers", like to visit UNESCO's World Heritage Sites andTrier, probably falls into the "king sized group of sites in one location" category. Trier was founded by the Celts in late 4th century BC and then conquered in the 1st century BC by the Romans. The city is considered to be the oldest in Germany. Trier was one of four capitals in the late 3rd or early 4th centuries AD of the Roman empire. Consequently, we see that the significance of Trier during the Roman and Holy Roman empires led to it having both Roman monuments and cathedrals from these eras. These are now listed as UNESCO World Heritage Site. These include well preserved Roman monuments such as the Roman Amphitheatre, the 2nd century AD Roman bridge, the oldest bridge still in use north of the Alps, the Porta Nigra, the best preserved city gate north of the Alps, and the ruins of three Roman Baths, Barbara, Imperial and Forum. There are the old, well preserved medieval buildings such as the huge basilica, Aula Palatina, huge in the true sense, built between AD 300 and AD 310, and the Trier Cathedral, it is the oldest church in Germany, dating from the early 4th century. These are but a few of the sites to see. A tour of the Hauptmarkt is also a must stop, for both shopping and restaurants, or just for photo taking. In the market, is an ancient cross, installed by Archbishop Heinrich 1, in 958 AD. It is not conspicuous, so you might have to look closely for it. It is not large and also its base might be obscured by the seat of some tired market goer. At one end of this square is where you will find the Porta Nigra, quite large and easy to spot. I should be able to at least recommend one spot at which to have some form of refreshment, and fortunately, I can. If you are in the mood for some delicious treats, we were given a very good tip, Christis Eis & Kaffee. It is located just off the square, heading down from Dom St. Peter. Anyway, there you have it. Is a stop to Trier worth it? Yep! And, would we chose the Hotel Zur Post ag

Four hours after check out (and many miles away by then) I realised left my toiletries bag inc medicines in the bathroom . I rang and emailed. No replies at all. I said I was happy to pay postage and a service fee. Still no reply. Appalling service from the hotel

Onverwacht een overnachting nodig en hier terecht gekomen. Goes verzorgd en geholpen met hetgeen we niet meegenomen hadden. Erg vriendelijk. Schone en moderne kamer. Ontbijt viel goed in de smaak in variatiw en hoeveelheid. Van harte aangeraden.

Propere kamers, correct ontbijt, aan een drukke baan, geen eigen restaurant er is een Italiaans restaurant naast de deur. Parking aan de overkant van de straat. Niet ver van de stad Trier, dicht bij de autostrade je kan makkelijk overal naartoe.

Typisch Duits hotel Ligging niet zo bijzonder achter kijk je uit op de snelweg en voorkant doorgaande weg naar Trier . Het inchecken om 17h00 via booking verliep een beetje verwarrend want ik had upgrade gedaan naar luxe kamer met 1 groot bed in het oudere gedeelte en de eigenaar wilde alsnog met 2 bedden regelen. Hij is netjes meegegaan naar de kamer nr 3 zeer klassiek met extra zitgedeelte echter geen koffiezet of fles water wat in meeste hotels wel aanwezig is. Enfin.... ik vroeg waar de bar was en die was er niet ik had dit wel verwacht maar goed. Uiteraard in coronatijd verwacht je mondmaskerplicht ik was zeer verbaasd toen een jonge vrouw met 2 kinderen samen met mij naar de receptie ging en zij zonder masker geen enkele opmerking kreeg? De reden dat ik dit vermeld komt later omdat ze daar met 2 maten meten.... We konden terecht vanaf 18h00 in het restaurant De Fredo en op oudjaar hoop je dat er iets extras is (Not) Daar we zeer slecht gegeten hadden en ook nog een waardeloze service waren we snel klaar en liepen we naar de receptie. De eigenaresse v h hotel liep achter ons aan en op een zeer agressieve en bedreigende schreeuwtoon (zij zonder masker op) riep dat mijn man zn mondmasker niet op had ( dat was hij helemaal vergeten want hij was zeer boos nav voorval bij het afrekenen (alleen cash....) maar dat is geen excuus. Desalniettemin was zij uiterst grof en beval onze koffers te pakken. Ik heb dit onmiddellijk gedaan 21:45) oudjaarsavond...want ik vond het dusdanig akelig dat ik daar geen minuut langer wilde blijven We hadden 2 nachten geboekt en mn man heeft 99€ afgerekend (we moeten nog zien of er niet 222€ wordt afgeschreven) en naar hotel Plaza Trier 1 km verder gereden ....geen spijt van!!!!!

Sehr nettes Personal, sehr schönes Zimmer, tolles Frühstück. Nur zu empfehlen! Bad mit begebarer Dusche tollem Design und Zimmer mit allem Komfort den man braucht. Hauseigenem Parkplatz gegenüber WLAN und einem Ristorante im früheren Restaurant, das auch sehr gut ist.
