Van der Valk Hotel Akersloot / A9 Alkmaar

A nice hotel but rooms feel very sp**** and dated given the cost. Carpets a bit worn in room. Clean enough contrary to other reviews. Duvet far too small for the size of the bed and no milk in the room for coffee. Rooms really far away from main reception which was an issue for someone with a clear temporary disability. The pool area was good but the large number of young children left unsupervised without a lifeguard is a clear safeguarding issue that should be addressed. Similarly in the gym area. It is dangerous. There should be a member of staff supervising this area. No robes - and towels far too small as well. Breakfast was OK- although eggs cooked 'fresh' are left sitting for a while which isn't great - they were cold. Bacon very overcooked too. Taxi shuttle available at the hotel is good although one driver was very rude and called me very rude name/profanity in Dutch. Wasn't aware that I could actually understand. Let the hotel down massively. Bartenders very lax in evening. Too slow and clearly not interested in ensuring the clients are served. Certainly won't choose to stay here again.

Floor, tables, room, … not always superclean. I slipped in the shower! Nothing to hold on and very slippery. For older people really dangerous, Cooking is very good. Staff super friendly. Little noisy due to planes overflying. Nice rooms and bed o.k. Need for improvement as to come to “Valk” level.

We checked in shortly before 2 PM on 9th Oct. 2022 at the Van der Valk Akersloot for a 3 day stay (Deluxe room incl. breakfast). We were asked to pay in advance & were also asked whether we wanted to book a table for dinner, which we agreed to, & were also asked to pay for in advance, so we made a deposit of 100 € by credit card. We were both very thirsty & wanted to make a cup of tea in our room but there were no cups available, only tiny espresso paper cups. My husband had been unwell in the car so we had the idea to made a Covid self-test. My husband tested positive whereas I was negative. We decided to inform the hotel immediately & went to reception. We both wore FFP2 masks. The lady at reception said she would get someone from the management which I was grateful for because I did not really want to discuss this in front of other people. She came back on her own, however, and told us we were to stay in our room & were not allowed to go to the restaurant, which seemed obvious to us. I just complained about being thirsty and she said we could make tea in our room, but my husband said there were no cups, so she said I will give you cups and turned around to take tea glasses from the bar and, WHILST HANDING THEM OVER TO ME, she intimated me to “KEEP DISTANCE!!!” I said “Calm down, I do not have the pest” and my husband added we were both wearing FFP2 masks. At this moment “THE” manager, (who had remained under cover until then), made his entry, raised his voice & made sure ALL EYES WERE ON US whilst he said he was not willing to argue about the effectiveness of masks with us and we were to stay in our room for 3 days and order from room service. He looked really nasty. A NASTY BIT OF WORKS. At this point I said to my husband in French that, under the circumstances, I had no intention to stay for 3 days. “THE” manager was quick to say that he could arrange for some refund if we left early. We came back to our room, made tea and ordered dinner for 18:00 and breakfast for 08:30 next morning. I wish to stress that I have myself always felt perfectly fit though I was worried about the long trip back home next day. I had asked the receptionist whether she had a thermometer and she said no and whether there was a hotel doctor, which was also negative. There was no interest for two people obviously not very young (my husband will soon be 85), no compassion or empathy for our well-being. We were just left to our own devices. We went back to the room, made tea and I ordered dinner for 18:00 and breakfast for 08:30 the next morning. My husband later called reception to confirm we were indeed leaving the next day. In the morning I packed everything again and was busy in the bathroom. 08:30 came and went and no breakfast was served, so I called reception and was told that “breakfast had been cancelled”. What do you mean, cancelled? “Breakfast is not included”, she said. What do you mean, I asked? We have paid 3 nights in advance including breakfast,

Recently ran a number of events the last few months at this large hotel - enjoyed great service and facilities. Would like to give a special thanks to the conference team especially Monique & Toine & colleagues. Would definitely recommend as a training venue. Hotel was always busy which suggested it is successful - certainly enjoyed some nice meals and great service any from the conference.

Expensive - posh - not for backpackers - but a lifesaver in our case. Huge 300 room complex right along HWY 9a - good beds - espresso machine in the room – rain shower head - although dangerously slippery shower floor - double doors to hallway made for a super quiet night. Hallways – in spite of many directional signs feels like a labyrinth - reception very friendly. Extensive breakfast. Croissants - hot food fried sausages, eggs - not for the sweet tooth however choice of jams in small foil containers (out of place with everything else that was offered) - surprisingly well managed in spite of amount of patrons - fruit to take along offered. All in all a decent experience for an overnight stay

On July 8, 2022, we hereby have this v.d. Valk in Akersloot slept in pool suite 57 for two nights for € 550 per night. The suite was filthy there was dust everywhere, on the glasses on the coffee machine on the taps where there were also dirty smudges everywhere, on entering there were flies flying in the room and the floor was also filthy. Rust and chewed gum were stuck to the edges of the pool, there were small dead cockroaches in the well and there was a lot of glow in the pool which took our breath away while splashing. It was very hot in the room, because the air conditioner couldn't handle it, which made sleeping almost impossible. We have been without power for a long time and the help for that started very slowly. There was no question of any excuse, there was not even asked how we had it in the suite and there was certainly no mention of the inconveniences. All in all, this pool suite is certainly not worth € 550 per night and we do not recommend this room. M. Bosma and F. Pieters.

Het was alsof ik in een opvangcentrum zat.. Ik verwachtte in een 4 sterren hotel te overnachten maar het blijkt dat Van der valk is gevallen voor het geld van COA. Dat is jammer genoeg niet de ervaring die ik voor ogen had. Voor mij geen Van der valk akersloot meer.

Onze 2e keer dat wij hier hebben overnacht deze keer NEW YORK SUITE en wederom is de kwaliteit van van der valk op deze locatie erg ver te zoeken. Als eerste de mobile key app werkte niet eens. eenmaal aangekomen geprobeerd via computer scherm proberen in te checken en daar werkte het ook niet ( error) ondertussen maar besloten bij de incheckbalie zelf in te checken na half uur in de rij te staan. Krijgen wij alsnog een. Fysieke pas wat je als gast juist niet wilt. De kamers waren wel oke niks bijzonder aan maar ik had een mailtje gestuurd met de vraag of mogelijk is om bv. Kamer te vesieren en als volgt krijgen wij een heel ongastvriendelijk en toch wel asociaal mailtje terug met de volgende tekst van een receptionist waarin beschreven wordt nadrukkelijk dat het " VERBODEN" is. Dit soort termen gebruik je niet bij gasten zeker niet als ze zoveel betaald hebben voor een kamer. Ze hebben nooit gehoord vsn de term " niet toegestsan" daf stast ook wat profesioneler. Dit verklaart ook het volgende dat tijdens het verblijf met name de receptionistes er onbeschoft zijn, niet allemaal maar merendeels overheerst dit onbeschofte gedrag. Meerdere meldingen gedaan over dat de strijkijzer beschadigd is wat zelfs gevaarlijk is ( zie foto) en de toilet dat lekte. Achteraf blijkt nu dat geen enkele receptionist medewerker dit heeft doorgegeven heeft. Restaurant duurde meer dan half uur voordat wij überhaupt geholpen werden. Het restaurant waar de stoelen zijn versleten, in de gangen waar de tapijten zijn versleten en verkleurt. In het zwembad is er geen badmeester aanwezig dit zou volgens de richtlijnen wel moeten( is melding bij instanties gemaakt voor inspectie) vanwege de veiligheid. Van der valk vind dat niet nodig en een camera en een knop is genoeg aldus van der valk. Wij hebben over het bovenstaande achteraf gemaild. Ik krijg reactie van een medewerker die zich " public relations" noemt. Een snelle google search blijkt het dus gewoon een jonge receptionist te zijn. In zo geval had een manager of op zijn minst een leiding gevende kunnen reageren. Als volgt krijgen wij de reactie dat het het niet gemeld is ?????? Terwijl wij dit meerdere malen hebben gemeld. Kortom nooit meer van der valk en ze zijn een klant kwijt! Erg onprofessioneel, slecht of tot geen communicate intern, ongastvriendelijk, jonge ongeschoolde receptionisten die onbeschoft zijn tegen gasten, mobile key app wat niet werkt als volgt de schild geven bij een externe partij terwijl wij andere gasten spraken waarbij de key ook niet werkte, maar wel hoge tarieven vragen. Erg gedatteerd allemaal! Nu de nieuwe opkomst met nieuwe hotel keten als intel hotels , pullman en mercure ( accord hotels) gaan wij nooit meer naar van der valk. Het probleem is het management dat heeft gefaald bij van der valk Akersloot ( als er überhaupt wel een manager aanwezig is) en ze doen er niks aan dit bleek al paar jaar geleden en nu wij de 2e keer hebben overnachf blijken de problemen nog erger te zijn.
