We stayed at one of the larger holiday homes (Villa Kleyn Geluk / #414) at EuroParcs De Rijp during the Christmas break. EuroParcs is a Dutch chain of holiday parks and this holiday park is situated in West-Graftdijk within half an hour of Amsterdam and within reach of picturesque Alkmaar (cheese market during summer months), beaches (Egmond, Castricum, Wijk aan Zee), Zaanse Schans, Museum Broekerveiling a and typical Dutch fishing villages such as Volendam, Marken, Edam. De Rijp, a small village close to EuroParcs De Rijp is worth a visit! We checked in advance and were informed that both the restaurant, take-away and small supermarket were closed during our stay and were advised to drive to De Rijp for a food shop (Plus Supermarket). We were somewhat puzzled why all was closed during the Christmas Break. Upon arrival, we received an information booklet and key which we picked up at the park reception. Our holiday home was spacious which worked well for our group (5 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, 1 en-suite, sauna with shower and 4 toilets). However, we soon learnt that our holiday home was not what we expected it to be. Apart from leaving a small box of dishwasher tablets, bin liners, etc, in kitchen and a stack of bedlinen in downstairs bedroom, the place was far from clean and most probably not inspected before we arrived! When sweeping the floors, we gathered more dust than we wished for. Also, surfaces felt sticky and the place did not smell fresh, resulting that we did some cleaning ourselves, a bottle of bleach and disinfecting wipes came to our rescue. While the place looked relatively new, the finish and usage of cheap materials already took its toll (doors that no longer closed (missing lock), broken kitchen drawer, walls with holes/dents caused by the opening of door knobs, loose toilet seat, leak in downstairs bathroom, missing router for Internet, dirty cushions with holes on sofa, blocked drain in shower of sauna, missing and broken bedside lamps. We did report our findings to reception and our feedback was written down. We were offered extra cleaning but since we already took care of the cleaning, we did not take them up on the offer. Since the Technical Team did not deliver a router on Christmas Eve, we went to reception again the following day and one of the receptionists came to our cottage to drop one off. Upon our departure, we had to leave at 10am, two cleaning people knocked on our door and asked us when we were planning to leave. We did not appreciate this, also since they waited at a holiday home opposite ours and came over before we finished packing our cars and left the park (well before 10am), this should not happen! We made the most of our stay but this was down to ourselves. Considering the amount of money which we paid to stay at this holiday home, we expected a better experience and hope that our comments will be taken into consideration so future guests can enjoy a better stay!
